Our Transition Year students have been working tirelessly on their Junk Kouture entries over the past few months with the support of their Art teacher. We are so proud of their final submissions! The students' creativity, ingenuity and sheer dedication is apparent in every aspect of their work. True excellence in action. Well done to all and the very best of luck in the next stage of the competition!
Enterprise Finalists
We are delighted to announce the students who are going to be representing CCA in the Wicklow Student Enterprise Awards. All of our TY and First Year Business students have been working hard on their mini companies which concluded in December with a TY Dragons' Den and a First Year Christmas Market. From those four companies have been selected. Congratulations to TY students Mohammad Amin Hamza, Sam Given, Rebekah Davis, Emma Windsor and First Year students Quillan Byrne, John Turley, Sebastian Anton and Abby Norman. The winners will now compete against other mini companies in Wicklow and will be spending the next couple of weeks completing their business reports and video presentations for the competition. Well done and best of luck to all!
U17 Boys Soccer
CCA suffered a home defeat today to Arklow CBS 2-0. The lads started slowly and struggled to get into a rhythm. We made too many silly errors and found ourselves giving the ball away too cheaply particularly in our own half which caused us problems. We were given plenty of warnings as Luke Davidson in goal made two or three good saves before we were again caught out in our own half but this time we were punished. Despite struggling in the first half, we had a great chance to go in at the break level. Mark Gray played Craig Davies in behind and Craig ran away from the defence, but his effort was well saved by the keeper.
CCA were asked for a response by their manager Mr. Connor and the lads came out much stronger in the second half. We were the better side and were constantly creating chances. Craig Davies had a few efforts go just wide. Martin Kelly had an effort cleared off the line and a header flash just wide. Lewi Stokes who had ran himself into the ground up front also saw an effort denied by the Arklow keeper. As we threw caution to the wind, we left ourselves exposed at the back and we got caught on the break and gave away a penalty which ended the game. Strong performances from a number of players including Sam Greene, Josh Bishop and Craig Davies. An extremely tough man of the match decision but Mark Gray gets the nod after a great display in the middle of midfield.
Junior Girls Soccer
The Junior Girls Soccer team came out on top this week in their second game of the year away to Gaelcholáiste na Mara with a winning score line of 12-1. Great performances by all on the day. A special mention to Keelin Dodd, Yasmin Bishop, Kacey Kelly and Izabelle King who played extremely well. Well done to all the girls and best of luck going forward from all at CCA.
Cyber Safety
This week we celebrated Safer Internet Week in CCA. There were lots of activities planned for this very important initiative, including screen-time competitions and daily quizzes. Our TY Cyber Safety team visited junior classes throughout the week and we also had a live webinar for CCA parents hosted by Cyber Safe Ireland which focused on the subject of online safety for teenagers. This year's theme was "The Ripple Effect" - the impact of cyber-bullying on family, friends, school and lifestyle. It was great to see so many people getting involved. Remember that together we will work to naviate the online world in a stronger, smarter and safer way.
Athletics
Well done to 3rd Year students Aoibhinn Keating and Oscar Durston. At the weekend they both competed in the U17 1500m Leinster indoors. Aoibhinn is a member of Kilcoole Athletics Club and won a silver medal with a time of 5.00.32. Oscar is a member of Ashford Athletics Club and won gold with a time of 4.29.09. Well done to both students on such a fantastic achievement!
House Points
In an exciting update in our House Points competition, we have a new leader this week! Congratulations to Hazel House who have taken the lead from Beech House after sitting comfortably on the top of the table for the past few weeks! Students are awarded House Points each week by their teachers for excellence in participation and engagement across all aspects of school life. Well done to all who have received house points over the last few weeks.
Students of the Month
Congratulations to all students who received Student of the Month Awards for the month of January. Our Student of the Month Award is a special CCA initiative that celebrates the academic and extra-curricular achievements of our students each month. It has been a focus of our schools approach to promoting the holistic development of each student. Well done to all!
Valentine's Day
For Valentine's Day, a group of TY students have been busy organising a "rose delivery" which has been open to all members of our school community. For €2 a rose would be sent anonymously to somebody special in the school with a nice quote attached. Everyone was encouraged to get involved in order to spread some love and kindness on the day.
Mock Examinations
We would like to wish our 3rd and 6th Year students who are currently undertaking their Mock Examinations. We are all behind you every step of the way!
