Student of the Month
Congratulations to all students who received awards for student of the month for November and December. This special CCA initiative has been a focus of our school's approach to promoting the holistic development of each student. The students who received the awards have excelled in all areas of school life during the past month. Well done to all the award winners!
5th Year College Talk
Following from our successful College Awareness Week, our 5th Year students attended presentations by UCD and Carlow College this month, learning about college life in general and what courses might best suit their strengths and interests. The future belongs to those who prepare for it!
House Points System
At the end of the term of our House Points System, we have already had a lot of movement on the leaderboard over the past few weeks. Currently Hazel House are in the lead having had a week where their points were almost double any other house! They are followed by Beech, Elm, Pine and Oak. Well done to everyone who has won points so far!
Exemplary Work
This month's subjects in focus for our Student Exemplary Work are Home Economics and Spanish. There was some fantastic work completed by our students over the last ter. Home Economics develops the knowledge, understanding, skills and values necessary to achieve optimal, healthy, and sustainable living for every person as an individual and as a member of families and society. At Leaving Certificate, it focuses on the three core areas of Food Studies, Resource Management & Consumer Studies, and Social Studies. Spanish focuses on communicative proficiency, as well as language awareness and cultural awareness. Our student's exemplary work can be viewed on our social media platforms.
First Year Christmas Carol Service
Our annual First Year Christmas Carol Service was held on Friday. It was delivered live to 1CDN and streamed to the other 1st year tutor groups. We shared some lovely Christmas memories from our First Year students, our peer mentors and the team of tutors and their Year Head Ms. Smith who work with them. We heard some great festive musical renditions from our music class and even had a visit from Santa who delivered every First Year student a selection box sponsored by our Parents' Council. A big thank you to Ms. Leydon, Ms. Webster and Ms. Smith for organising and well done to all who took part on the day.
Transition Year News
TY Cookalong
A number of Transition Year students took part in an online cookery evening this month with chef Vanessa Greenwood. The students accessed this course on zoom where Vanessa showed them how to make each dish step by step using basic kitchen equipment. The students learned how to make beef burgers and a strawberry meringue roulade. They focused on the key culinary skills needed in making these dishes which they can apply to other dishes. Vanessa also spoke about her career to date and what is involved in running her own cookery school which she set up over 15 years ago.
TY Awards
Following another fantastic term, our Transition Year students held their final group assembly this week. Yead Head Ms. Walsh and the team of tutors acknowledged the excellent terms work and presented this term and month awards. Nina Wolohan, Sophie Murray Lacey, Clodagh Jordan and Oliwia Ninard were presented as TY Bloggers of the term. Oliwia Ninard was presented with the Spirit of TY award for the term. Congratulations to Kyle Sheeran, Matt Gammell, Ashling Kennedy and Andra Macapinlac who were awarded Student of the Month. Well done to all Transition Years for their participation in all activities this term.
