Week of 17th May
Green School Committee
The Green Schools committee recently chose the new green code motto which will be used for all of our green school events in the future. This code was chosen as the winning code from a competition that was run during Green Schools week.
Two of our students, Sinead Raposo and Sophie Hamilton in Transition Year also completed the online KWETB course “50 Shades Greener” and have been awarded their Certificate for completion for the 6 week online environmental awareness course.
Transition Year News
Happy Pear
We had two visits from Dave and Stephen Flynn from the Happy Pear. They spoke about health, business and happiness to all the Transition Years. They spoke about their journey through life, from leaving school, to playing sport, to travelling around the world, to setting up a small business. They then spoke about what it is like to run and grow a successful business. They finished up by doing exercises on mindfulness and meditation with the group while talking about the benefits of eating more fruit and vegetables and healthy lifestyle habits.
Skipping Workshop
This week, Mark from Skip n Rope came to the school and taught the Transition Year students how to skip. He taught them new skills such as the double under, crisscross, x jumps and backwards skipping. At the end of the session, all of the student’s playout a knockout game where they had to jump into a giant skipping rope, run around, repeat from the other side and if they were hit by the rope they were out. It was a difficult workout for all but also an enjoyable one. Thanks to Bradley for the report.
Transition Year Graduation
On Wednesday, we were presented with a student lead graduation that demonstrated the unique CCA Transition Year Programme. It has certainly been a different school year for everyone this year but probably more so for our TY students. In spite of all the restrictions and uncertainty, they remained very positive and sowed amazing attitude and energy throughout the year. Thanks to the excellent planning and organisation from Mr. Ryan and the entire Transition Year Team the student’s still had time for fun and gained many experiences, broadened their horizons and built fond memories for life. Well done to 4AKE on their success in the new innovative house system and to Jack Neill on winning the award for “Spirit of TY”. We are also very proud of our international students who joined us this year. Their enthusiasm and contribution to the community was exceptional and we wish them a safe journey home!
