Cross Country
Our Cross Country team competed in Avondale in the Wicklow schools competition recently. Well done to all our athletes for their excellent effort in cold conditions. Congratulations to all our medal winners, especially our 3rd Year Boys and Girls teams who won gold in their team event. Special mention also goes to our TY girls Charlotte Pelz Olufade, Moya Kelly and Saoirse Finnerty who finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Senior Boys Soccer
The senior Boys played their last group game on Wednesday against Arklow CBS and enjoyed a 5-1 win. The game started quite level for the first 10-15 minutes with a few chances at either end. After that, CCA took control of the game and took the lead through JP Nolan. We added a second just before half time with a cool finish from Michael Gray after some excellent work from JP down the right-hand side.
The second half continued in the same manner as the first with chances aplenty at both ends of the pitch. CCA's defence held firm with some brilliant defending from Andrew Waters and Keevan Doyle along with a few fine saves from Sean Byrne. CCA then scored two great goals: Shane Synnott carved open the defence with a pass to Michael Gray and he dispatched it into the top corner. JP Nolan added his second after taking it past two Arklow defenders and a neat finish into the bottom left.
CCA had chances to add a fifth goal with Shane Synnott and Xander Johnson coming close. Michael Gray had a great chance to round off his hat trick but managed to put it over the crossbar from 2 yards! CCA got a penalty in the last minute which JP slotted home to grab his third.
This was a very strong performance from the CCA team with a Man of the Match performance in midfield from Sam Bishop. Sean Byrne also made his debut for the senior team as goalkeeper and was a commanding presence throughout.
The team now have a semi-final to look forward to after Christmas.
U15 Boys Soccer
Our boys under 15s soccer teams were unlucky to only draw with Woodbrook this week. A last minute goal from Woodbrook left the lads a bit deflated after a great team performance. With a lot of injuries and people out sick or away we utilised the whole squad well and so many players took their chances and put in fantastic performances to give Mr Rice a good selection headache going into our next game in the new year. It finished 3-3 and goals from Regan Kelly, Matthew Britton and also from man of the match Ryan Collins. We go again after Christmas.
Spirit of Enterprise Week
This week we celebrated "Spirit of Enterprise Week" in CCA. To celebrate it, we had lots of activities spread throughout the week. Mr. Hughes visited the morning assemblies and held a tutor competition for each year group. Students had to guess the name of a famous entrepreneurs from clues given to them. We had Dragons' Den for our TY entrepreneurs. We had a talk for our 5th and 6th year Business students from the owner of Wicklow Wok. A member of Bank of Ireland facilitated a live Zoom call with the 2nd, 3rd and 5th year Business Classes where he promoted financial literacy and Fraud. We also held a Christmas market on Thursday for our top First Year and Transition Year entrepreneurs to showcase their businesses.
Dragons' Den
On Tuesday we held a Dragons' Den for all our Transition Year students. For the last number of weeks, the TYs have been becoming entrepreneurs by coming up with business ideas in order to start their own business. For Dragons' Den, students were invited to pitch their business idea to our panel of judges with consisted of Ms. Walsh, Mr. Ryan, Ms O'Driscoll, our Business teachers and Hannah Flew on behalf of the student enterprise programme. The standard on the day was very high but the groups that were the most impressive were Nutria, Fab Flames, Funky Frames, Hestia's Mix and Lil'Trees. Best presentations were Juicy Jewels, Amintech and E&K Resin Jewellery. One group from each tutor group was chosen to represent their class at the Christmas market on Thursday. Well done to all involved and a big thank you to the judges for taking the time to be there on the day.
Christmas Market
On Thursday we held a Christmas market for our First Year and Transition Year entrepreneurs. The top groups from each business class were chosen to represent their class and sell their products at the market. All teachers were invited up to show support and buy some Christmas gifts and some classes were also brought up to the market. We had a lovely afternoon with lots of fun and sales, some groups even selling out during the afternoon! Well done to all involved and especially for all that have put such a big effort into their companies.
Senior Business Talk
On Wednesday, John Maher, owner of Wicklow Wok visited our 5th and 6th Year students. He spoke about his journey as an entrepreneur and the challenges he has faced on his entrepreneurial journey. It was interesting to learn about the level of risk associated with setting up and running a business particularly during COVID 19. It was a great opportunity for the students to learn how the theory they learn in class is a reality for many entrepreneurs. A big thank you to John for coming in and giving such a great insight to the students.
