Gaisce Bronze Award Ceremony

On Wednesday 26th October, LáGaisce, we held our Gaisce Bronze Award ceremony where our Gaisce participants received their certificates and medals in recognition of the hard work, commitment and dedication they all put into completing the challenge.

Gaisce is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland to all young people and it gives them an opportunity to find their passion, get active and make a difference in their community.

Throughout this experience they challenged themselves, grew in confidence, met new people, made new friends, developed their interests and discovered new opportunities.

As part of the challenge areas which include physical recreation, personal skill and community involvement, they completed a variety of activities. From swimming, GAA, basketball, badminton and yoga, to knitting, learning an instrument and baking.

It has been wonderful to see them all helping out in their local communities by assisting in nursing homes, charity shops, tidy town committees, training their peers and giving their time in school at homework and library clubs. Volunteering and giving up free time is a fantastic thing to do and is invaluable to communities.

Even though the Adventure Journey wasn’t what we anticipated, we still got to undertake a hike in Glendalough and spend time in the outdoors discovering all that the garden of Ireland has to offer.

While the entire year group started this journey together, the PALs, Ms. Walsh, Mr. Ryan and the tutors are so proud of the students who persevered and completed the Award. Although the Bronze Gaisce journey is over now, there is an opportunity for them to go on and complete the Silver and/or Gold award if they so wish. Well done to 5th Year student Sam Eager who gave us an insight into his personal Gaisce journey.

From President Higgins “By taking part in the Gaisce programme, you have embraced the test that is at the heart of the Gaisce challenge; making a pact with yourself to set goals, and to pursue your achievement vigorously. This is never easy, as no noble task ever is. I want to convey my congratulations to every participant who has decided to embark on this journey and to all those who have seen the journey through to the end. Molaim sibh. Beir beannacht”. Well done to all involved.
