OPEN NIGHT 2014

Preparations are underway for this year’s annual ‘Open Night’ on Thursday October 23rd, where we welcome prospective and current parents and members of our community to visit our school.  Students and staff will be showcasing the range of academic, extra-curricular and sporting activities which take place in our school, as well as the work of our student council, our choir, dancing, drama and the many more roles our students play in their rich and diverse school life.

PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT

There will be an Information Night for all parents and guardians of sixth year students tonight, Wednesday October 15th at 7.30p.m.  This meeting is being held to give parents information regarding careers and college placements, while also informing them about the CAO process.

ANNUAL SCHOOL WALK

Well done to our staff and students who took part in our annual sponsored 10km walk on Wednesday, 8th October.  Despite the wet weather, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day.  We would like to say thanks to staff and members of the Parents Council for all their help in facilitating the day.  All students are reminded to bring in their sponsorship cards and money to their class tutor.

WELL DONE

Well done to Troy Scully in second year who won the U16 County Cross Country title in Avondale recently over a distance of 4000m.  Troy led from start to finish and won by more than 60 metres.  He competed again last weekend in Avondale for the u15 title, coming up against stiff competition from his best friend and current u14 national 800m and 1500m indoor and track and field champion.  Troy has also been selected to join the Slí Cualann development squad, which is for u15 to Masters from Wicklow.  The squad will be going to Portugal next April for a training camp.  Watch this space!

COUNTY HURLING

Congratulations to Mr Maher who mentored the senior hurlers of Bray Emmets to their first county championship final victory since 1952 last week!  In a tough affair with Glenealy, the seniors came back from 3 points and a man down to win by the bare minimum.  Final score: Bray Emmets 2-09 Glenealy 1-11.

FIRST YEAR GIRLS FOOTBALL

The first year girl’s football qualifier blitz took place in Pearse Park Arklow last Thursday.  The girls played a blinder, winning convincingly against St. Killian’s Bray, Arklow Community College and Gaelcholáiste Na Mara.  They now qualify for another blitz this month.  Many thanks to the fourth year students who helped out.  Well done girls!

CONGRATULATIONS

Well done to Isobel O Grady in sixth year, who has been selected as a member of the Leinster Performance squad in athletics.
