ANNUAL PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY
Last Friday 15th May students and staff took part in our annual Junior and Senior Prizegiving ceremonies. Our whole school community and invited guests took time to recognise the hard work and great efforts of our students over the past academic year in many categories including academic, sporting, leadership, entrepreneurship, civic, cultural, musical and artistic. Students were awarded academic prizes in each subject area, with a number of Sixth year students receiving perpetual awards for subjects studied in their Leaving Certificate year. Sporting awards covered team and individual efforts from camogie, soccer and hurling to basketball and athletics. Awards were also given to recognise students who had made significant achievements outside school.
6th YEAR GRADUATION EVENING
Next Thursday evening, 21st May, our Sixth year students will bid an emotional farewell to Coláiste Chraobh Abhann at their final graduation ceremony. There will be speeches from students and staff and a series of songs sung by the Transition year choir. Mr Hughes, year head, will give the ‘Rogha na Bliana’ award to the most outstanding boy and girl of the year, along with other prizes. Staff, parents and local clergy will be in attendance for what promises to be a memorable evening.
END OF YEAR EXAMINATIONS
Students are revising and preparing for the end of year house examinations, which will start next Monday 25th May. We wish all our 1st, 2nd, TY and 5th year students well in their exams.
NON-UNIFORM DAY IN AID OF CCA PARENTS COUNCIL
Well done to students and staff who contributed generously to our non-uniform day in aid of the Parents Council last Tuesday. The Parents Council’s fundraising is absolutely crucial to so many activities in our school. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them again for their hugely supportive work this year.
TRANSITION YEAR EXHIBITION EVENING 2015
Staff, students and parents look forward to an exciting and varied evening on Tuesday 26th May at our TY exhibition evening. This is an evening where parents can really appreciate the personal development and teamwork that marks out TY as such an important year for many of our students. There will be exhibits covering entrepreneurship, music, drama, art and many more. Many thanks to all the staff who are helping prepare students for this important evening.
Well done to the following CCA Science students who took part in the recent SciFest@College event at Institute of Technology, Tallaght: Aoife Lynskey McWatt, Erika Bellamy, Maciej Goszczycki, Evan Vines, Kelianne Coughlan, Kerri Boylan, Hyrum Scott, Ódhran Wall, Ciarán Crimes, John Kelly, Jamie Lee Cummins, Jake Dowse, Lainey Magee Baker, Lillian Molloy O'Connor, Hetty-Mae Messitt, Jodie Doyle-Gilshenan, Zoe Britton, Emily Hackett and Rebecca Hayden. SciFest was a fantastic experience for all of the students who took part this year – for all but one student it was their first time doing a SciFest event. They put a lot of time in to making their projects even more impressive than they were for Scifest@School, which was a great success at CCA last term. The Science Department are proud of how all students represented themselves, the school and their work. Many of them are already looking forward to next year’s endeavours!
