SIXTH YEAR CCA STUDENT TRAVELS TO STRASBOURG

Sixth year student Rebekah Grant will travel to Strasbourg to represent Coláiste Chraobh Abhann on Tuesday 20th January as a winner of an award by the Michael Sweetman Educational Trust.  The trust, set up in memory of former Irish economist Michael Sweetman, awards a trip to Euroscola in Strasbourg, France, to 24 Leaving Certificate Applied students.  The award winners get to spend a day in the shoes of an MEP; learning about the workings of the European Institutions from the inside, discussing democracy and fundamental rights with other teenagers from all over the EU and expressing their personal opinions on Europe in the chamber of the European Parliament.  Rebekah will return on Friday 23rd January and will later present a report on her trip.  We wish Rebekah the best on this wonderful opportunity.  Many thanks to Ms Cluskey for her support of Rebekah.

1st YEAR PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT MEETING

We look forward to meeting all of our 1st year parents and guardians at the parent-teacher-student meeting on Thursday 15th January 2015.  The meeting will be an opportunity for teachers, parents and students to focus on the goals to be achieved in 1st year, and to discuss how each student has adapted to the changes of attending secondary school.

UNDER 15s BOYS SOCCER

Well done to the under 15 boys soccer team who unfortunately were beaten 3-1 by Coláiste Bríde, Carnew, in their  last group game. It was an unlucky game the team didn't deserve to lose but a great goal was scored by David Eivers and CCA are still through to the semi-final  away to Wexford CBS. Man of the match was Mikel Counihan.

CCA STUDENTS ARE FOOTLOOSE!

The cast and crew of this year’s CCA musical are hard at work rehearsing for the show, which takes place in March.  The school musical is always a great example of school spirit and a great night out.   Please contact the Mermaid Arts Centre to enquire about tickets on (01) 272 4030 for the show, which will run from Wednesday 11th to Friday 13th March inclusive.

HEALTH AND SAFETY WEEK

This week is Health and Safety week at Coláiste Chraobh Abhann, and there are a range of activities in progress to focus our attention on the importance of health and safety in our working environment.  There will be talks for students and a focus on all members of our school community increasing their awareness of the importance of health and safety as part of everyday activity.  This is a week where we are all especially aware of health and safety in the classroom - teachers will be taking time to put a special emphasis on it during lessons this week.

YOUNG SCIENTIST EXHIBITION 2015

Transition and First year students enjoyed a fascinating and educational day at the BT Young Scientist 2015 last Friday.  The students travelled to the RDS together on Friday morning and spent the day at the exhibition centre, browsing the many and varied projects created by students.  The Young Scientist exhibition gives students a chance to see the real-life application of science, and encourages them to see the study of science as an important skill for life.
