A big thank you to everyone who helped with the very successful Coláiste Chraobh Abhann Open Night 2017, which took place on Thursday, the 21st of September in the school from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. From staff, students, parents and volunteers, everyone played their part in showing off all the great things our school has to offer and we were delighted to see the great turnout from the local community. The music students were in fine voice in the GP area, entertaining our visitors as they explored the school. The Student Council provided some tasty home-baked treats, under the culinary excellence of Mr Rice. It was lovely to meet prospective students that will hopefully join us in the coming years and especially seeing past students who returned to say ‘hello,’ maintaining that strong bond we have with all our students; be it past, present or future.
The School Extra Curricular List 2017-2018 is now finalised and available to see on the school website and Facebook. Whatever your chosen interest is, there will be something for you to get involved in, from Camogie, basketball, drama, choir, circuit training, debating, cross-country and much, much more. Speak to Mr Ryan for further details.
Congratulations to all involved who participated in Diversity Week last week. There were numerous activities and events taking place throughout the week, which were led by the Religion Department, The CSPE Department and the Student Council. A special thanks to Chloe Crean Tigh, Michaela Smith McGarry and Tyler Fell in TY for the wonderful GP area display.
Ms Egan and the Musical directors would like to thank all the students who auditioned for the School Musical High School Musical last week. The auditions were open to all 1st, 2nd, TY and 5th year students. Well done to everyone who took the brave step and put themselves forward. There was a very high standard this year. Call backs will take place on Thursday the 21st and Tuesday the 26th of September and the cast will be announced in the next fortnight.
MR DONAL EVOY
The staff and students of CCA would like to wish Donal Evoy a heavyhearted farewell as he sets off on his new position with the JCT. Donal joined CCA in 2006 and has taught numerous subjects over the years, including History, English and Religion. Donal has always been a loyal and generous colleague, ever willing to share his experience and depth of knowledge to students and staff alike.
He played an integral role in the early planning and development of the school. Along with his Year Head duties, Donal has held a diversity of roles, including Student Council Facilitator, Students’ Garden Keeper, History Club Coordinator, Gaelic Football Coach and Ping Pong Club President.
Donal is the current holder of The Leg competition and we hope he will return to defend his title in the years to come. In honour of his sporting achievements within the school, he was inducted into the 5s Hall of Fame last Tuesday, being only the second member of staff to be awarded such a high accolade. We hope he will keep in touch with his old friends and despite the demands of his new position, we are sure he will find time to pursue his eclectic list of hobbies, which include entomology, GAA coaching and still-life drawing. We wish him well in his endeavours.
