Parent and Student Survey on the Daily and Weekly Schedule

Background Information for Parents and Students
The school is currently planning for changes to the weekly and daily schedule of classes to fulfil the requirements for the introduction of the new Junior Cycle as set out by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA).  These changes will come into effect for the start of the academic year 2017-2018. 

Two of the requirements are that all class periods will be a minimum of 40 minutes in duration and that the school week comprises 28 hours of full teaching and learning.  As a consequence, some of the factors that need to be considered are listed below:
  1. Changes to the start and end time of the school day
  2. Changes to the duration of break times
  3. What is the best option for Class Tutor/Assembly time?
  4. What is the most effective structure of the school day? - e.g. the current daily structure is 2 periods/break/3 periods/break/4 periods
 
You should note that the changes will impact on students in all year groups and not just those in Junior Cycle. 
Other factors such as the allocation of time/periods to subjects on the curriculum are mostly determined by the DES/NCCA recommendations.  Please note that the final decision on the changes will rest  with the Board of Management after the consultation phase has been completed and a proposal drafted for their consideration.

  1. Analysis of staff survey
  2. Analysis of parent and student survey
  3. Bus Eireann transport times (for the start and end of day times)
  4. Availabity of resources from the DES
  5. Timetabling constraints
