SWEDISH PARTNER SCHOOL VISITStudents and teachers had a very enjoyable few days last week when we hosted visitors from our partner school Wieselgrensskolan, in Sweden. The students stayed with their host families and joined their Irish host students in school each day. On Thursday, 7th January, students from both schools took part in a concert to celebrate the core theme of our partnership, music. During the afternoons, students got a chance to play camogie and hurling, and take part in metalwork, home economics and Irish dancing, which was a great success! On Saturday evening, everyone went bowling. Sunday was spent with host families and the visitors departed on Monday morning. Many thanks to Ms Armstrong for her work in preparing for the visit and musical performances.
MUSICAL PERFORMANCE WITH KILCOOLE PRIMARY SCHOOLLast Friday morning, students from CCA school choir and from Wieselgrensskolan school in Sweden visited Kilcoole Senior Primary school where they performed songs along with students from the primary school. It was a hugely enjoyable morning. Many thanks to the staff at Kilcoole Primary school for facilitating this concert.
INFORMATION NIGHT FOR INCOMING FIRST YEARS Many thanks to the parents and guardians of the students who will join us as First years in September 2013, who attended last week’s information evening. The evening was very welll attended and parents found it an invaluable opportunity to familiarise themselves with the policies and procedures of Coláiste Chraobh Abhann, as well as to understand the specific needs of First year students, who are taking on a huge change in their transition from primary to secondary school. Our First year students are very well supported by tutors, year head and a team of peer mentors at CCA. Parents also had the opportunity to ask questions about important items including school trips, homework policy and extra-curricular activities. We look forward to welcoming our new First years in September.
TY FRENCH CREPE MAKINGMuch fun was had by TY French students last week thanks to Martin Molitor, our new language assistant, who gave a demonstration of traditional French crepe making. Students created a video of Martin’s demonstration en francais and had a go at flipping their own crepes. Finally everyone got a chance to taste the crepes which was the best part! Many thanks to Martin for his involvement in many activities with the students since he arrived.
GIRLS UNDER 15 SOCCERCongratulations to the girls under 15 soccer team who scored a fantastic win recently against Loreto Bray. It was a really excellent team performance and all 24 players contributed hugely to the victory in difficult weather conditions. The goals were scored by captain Aisling McDonald and Aine Gammell. ‘Girl of the match’ was shared by Aisling McDonald and Shauna Murtagh. The team will now play their quarter-final after mid term against St Killians in Clonskeagh. Best of luck girls! Many thanks to Mr Rice and Ms French for their work with the team.
