10th January 2014

Congratulations to the Under 17 girls soccer team who beat Gaelcholáiste na Mara 3 - 2 in their league fixture on Thursday 9th January.  The team played superbly well and came from behind to finally win the match in the last few minutes.  Aisling Mcdonald scored the first two goals and Jessica Scott secured the win with an excellent goal in the last few minutes.  They played exceptionally well and are looking forward to their next competitve fixture.

Transition and First year students enjoyed a fascinating and educational day at the 50th Anniversary of the BT Young Scientist Exhibition last Friday.  The students travelled to the RDS together on Friday morning and spent the day at the exhibition centre, browsing the many and varied projects created by students.  The Young Scientist exhibition gives students a chance to see the real-life application of science, and encourages them to see the study of science as an important skill for life.

All students will receive their Christmas reports this week, and every student will spend time reflecting on their progress with their class tutor.  During this session, tutors will be emphasising the importance of attendance and punctuality as part of successful academic progress.  Students will also be setting their targets for their mock exams - for exam years - and Easter assessments.

This week is Health and Safety week at our school, and there are a range of activities in progress to focus our attention on the importance of health and safety in our working environment.  All assemblies will focus on the theme of health and safety as an important part of our lives.  This is a week where we are all especially aware of health and safety in the classroom and are taking the time to put a special emphasis on it during lessons this week.

We look forward to welcoming the parents, guardians and first year students to their parent-teacher-student meeting next Thursday 16th January, at 4.15pm.  Our First year students have had a very successful first term, making the transition from primary to second-level.  We wish them well for the rest of the school year.
