11th October 2013

Well done to our staff and students who took part in our annual sponsored 10km walk on Wednesday, 9th October.  It was a thoroughly enjoyable day.  We would like to say thanks to staff and members of the Parents Council for all their help in facilitating the day.

Preparations are underway for this year’s annual ‘Open Night’ on Thursday October 24th, where we welcome prospective and current parents and members of our community to visit our school.  Students and staff will be showcasing the range of academic, extra-curricular and sporting activities which take place in our school, as well as the work of our student council, our choir, dancing, drama and the many more roles our students play in their rich and diverse school life.

There will be an Information Night for all parents and guardians of sixth year students tonight, Wednesday October 16th at 7.30p.m.  This meeting is being held to give parents information regarding careers and college placements, while also informing them about the CAO process.

Hard luck to the senior Camogie team who were beaten by a very strong Dominican side last week.  The team played very well and were unlucky to lose out in the end by a score of 2-5 to 5 points.  The team was: Holly Martin, Niamh Short, Sinéad Roche, Ava Condon, Jade Byrne, Sinéad Kinsella, Rachel Finnegan, Leanne Carlin Hannon, Sarah Byrne, Anneliese Dunne, Sarah Gammell, Robyn Phipps-Rooney, Ella Neary, Alannah Bellamy, Lorna Fanthom, Ciara Kelly, Rachel Crimes, Alana Dole and Orla Bradshaw.  Player of the match was top scorer Leanne Carlin Hannon.  Well done to all involved.

A reminder to all students that the school credit union is open each week at lunchtime for all students to deposit their savings.

Many thanks to our Peer Mentors who organised an afternoon of orienteering for our first year students last week.  The students enjoyed the afternoon immensely and it gave them an opportunity to work as part of team to solve the clues.  Thanks also to Ms. Connolly for overseeing the event.

Congratulations to the senior boys’ soccer team who won their first competitive game of the season on a scoreline of 5-0 against St. David’s.  There were two goals from Stephen Davis and hat-trick hero Aodhán Garvey.  Man of the match was Aodhán Garvey though every player played extremely well on the day.

Congratulations to the U15 boys’ soccer team who got off to a winning start in their league campaign.  They comprehensively beat St. David’s 6-3.  There were some excellent performances all over the pitch.  Captain Ryan Burke and Seán Gregory were fantastic in midfield but man of the match was Daniel Grehan who scored a first half hat-trick.  Well done to all the players.
