13th December 2013

The Music Department has been very busy over the last fortnight.  The first and fifth year students joined the choir from Kilcoole Primary School in St. Anthony’s Church for an evening of Christmas carols. The soloist was Cian Gallagher and the musicians were Andrew Connaughton and Kalvin Townsend Smyth.  The Transition Year Choir visited Eyrefield Manor nursing home in Greystones for some carols with the residents.  An enjoyable time was had by all.  We look forward to our end of year Carol Service on Friday December 20th

All our Third year students took part in Differential Aptitude Tests (DATS) last Friday.  DATS is a day-long set of tests that assesses verbal, numerical, mechanical, spatial and abstract reasoning as well as spelling and language usage. It is a profiling measure which helps students decide which subjects and career areas suit them as they move forward in their school life.  Thanks to Ms McDonagh and Ms Hudson for their work on this.

Many thanks to the Transition Year students who coordinated this year’s St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper appeal.  The student volunteers did fantastic work and lots of goods were donated.  Many thanks to all who donated.  The hampers will be handed over to St Vincent de Paul at our carol service on Friday.

We look forward to welcoming the parents and guardians of our First year students to their parent-teacher meeting on Thursday 16th January, at 4.15pm.  Our First year students have had a very successful first term, making the transition from primary to second-level.  We wish them well for the rest of the school year.

Coláiste Chraobh Abhann will be closed from Friday 20th December until Monday 6th January, when the new term commences. We look forward to a busy and eventful term, and we would like to wish all our parents, students and members of our local community a happy and peaceful Christmas break.
