27th September 2013

Our annual Maths Week will take place from October 7th to 11th.  There will be plenty of activities taking place during the week to encourage our budding 'Einsteins' to put their maths skills into practice.

The Parent/Teacher/Student meeting for third year students will take place on Thursday October 10th from 4.15p.m. To 6.45p.m.  All students and their parents or guardians are encouraged to attend.  Classes for students will finish at 3.30p.m.

Coláiste Chraobh Abhann staff and students will be putting on their walking shoes on Wednesday, 9th October, to take part in a sponsored 10km walk.  The inaugural walk took place last year to mark the 10th anniversary of the school and was such a success that we have now decided to make it an annual event.  Students and staff will start the walk about 11am from the school.  Senior students will walk from the school down to the beach towards Greystones and back through Charlesland. Junior students will also walk down to the beach, turning towards Newcastle and then when they reach the river will turn back to Kilcoole. There is also a short walk for any students with reduced mobility. We are all looking forward to this most enjoyable walk and many thanks to staff and members of the Parents Council for all their help in facilitating the day.

Work is proceeding apace on this year’s school musical, “Grease” and students are starting to feel the excitement of another school production in the works.  Final auditions were held last week and students are eagerly awaiting the cast list.  Best wishes to all involved and we look forward to hearing from them soon with another update soon.  Watch this space!

A charity gig will take place in The Mill Room at Byrne’s Kilcoole on Saturday October 12th from 7p.m. to 11p.m.  There will be local bands, a raffle and plenty of fun.  Entry fee is €3, with proceeds going to Open Door.

Congratulations to the Kilcoole Girls Camogie team who won the Healy Randle shield last week.

Congratulations to the Boys Senior Soccer team who began their season with a good 1-0 win against St. David’s, Greystones.  It was a great team performance with a well deserved goal scored by Finn Ryan in his first game for the school team.  Man of the match on the day was Stuart Synnott.

Many thanks to staff and students who contributed to our non-uniform day on Thursday last in aid of a local charity, Going Gold for Gavin.  Students were asked to wear yellow or gold to support the charity on the day.

Students are encouraged to write a short story of between 800-1200 words on the theme of ‘A Wild Adventure’, as part of a new fantasy writing competition.  All entries should be emailed to Ms Hennessy.
