29th May 2015

Students and staff have had an opportunity to reflect on their achievements over the last year at several evening events to mark the end of CCA’s academic year. On 21st May, our Sixth year students bid farewell to Coláiste Chraobh Abhann at their final graduation ceremony. As well as some memorable speeches there was beautiful music and outstanding solo performances from graduates April Nyakudya, Shauna O'Connor, Mike Treanor and Cillian Molloy. Musicians were Andrew Connaughton, Sarah Dorgan and Cillian Molloy. Many thanks to Ms Madden, Ms Armstrong and many other members of staff who helped students prepare for this important event.   On Tuesday 26th May, the TY exhibition evening, gave parents, family members, visitors and of course the TY graduates themselves, the chance to reflect on the personal development, teamwork, entrepreneurship and creativity that marks out TY as such an important year for many of our students.  Ms McCormack, Transition Year coordinator, also announced the ‘Rogha na Bliana’, students of the year, which were awarded to Clodagh Bradshaw and Thomas Kearns.  Well done to all our TY students who have had a very rewarding year and thanks to parents and teachers who have supported them in all their activities.

Students completed their end of year exams last week and prepared for the summer holidays by returning locker keys and books. We wish all our non-exam students the best of luck with their summer results and a relaxed summer.  Our Junior and Leaving Certificate students begin their state exams this week, and we wish them the best of luck.

Huge congratulations to our 1st year boys on winning the Wicklow Schools 1st Year Gaelic Football B Championship recently at Pearse’s Park in Arklow. The score was CCA 3-10 to Coláiste Bhríde, Carnew 2-8.  This was an amazing victory, considering CCA were down 10 points at half time. Goals from Jack Elliot, Kian Marah and Oisín Cullen turned the tide in the 2nd half and points from Ciarán Keogh and Daniel Testa secured a great win. Overall, it was a brilliant performance with some top class defending especially by Sam Ireland, Marc Walsh and Cian McHugh.  All the players ran themselves almost to a standstill, none more so than Man of the Match Oisín Cullen at midfield. The team and scorers were: Kamil Pawlak, Sam Ireland, Luke O’Callaghan, Marc Walsh, Seán Leacy, Cian McHugh, Kian Marah(1-1), Oisín Cullen(1-3), Daniel Testa(0-2), Oisín Cosgrave, Adam Gallagher, Ciarán Keogh(0-3), Christopher Murphy, Alec Green, Jack Elliot(1-1). Subs: Diarmuid Murphy, Cormac Timmons, Fionn Mansfield, Kalon Murdiff, Tom Fitzgerald Murray.  Many thanks to 1st year head Mr Maher for his mentoring and training of the team this year.

A final reminder that the CCA school website has an updated gallery of photos highlighting all the events and activities in which students have been involved this year: parents and anyone interested is invited to browse at https://colaisteca.ie/index.php/about-cca/media-gallery/photo-gallery-2014-2015/

We would like to wish everyone a happy and relaxed summer.  We look forward to welcoming students to the autumn term on Thursday 27th August 2015.
