The Transition Year Student Bank 'On The Ball Banking' was officially launched last Tuesday by All-Star hurler and All-Ireland winner Henry Shefflin.  The school bank, which is run by 6 Transition Year students under the leadership of bank manager Jade Byrne, opens on a daily basis and assists students with opening accounts, making lodgements and giving advice and support of budgeting and saving.  The other members of the school bank team include Stephen Hunt, Roisin Connaughton, Molly Hayes, Aaron O'Brien and Luke Byrne.  They are supported in operating their own bank by Mary Fahey and her staff in Bank of Ireland Greystones.   The launch included some speeches from the invited guests and Henry Shefflin officially cut the ribbon to launch 'On The Ball Banking' where 'Every Point Accounts'.  Henry was very impressed with the students at the launch and their commitment to the programme.  Any student who is interested in opening an account can fill in an application form or make lodgements every Thursday at lunch time.  The school bank team are currently visiting first year classes to give workshops on money and banking.

Well done to Róisín Belton, Lauryn Coughlan and Sinéad Conway in Transition Year who have qualified for the Regional Finals in the Art/Fashion competition ‘Junk Kouture’.  The finals will take place on March 7th in the Helix.  The voting takes place during the week beginning Monday February 22nd until Friday February 26th.  All students are encouraged to vote for their project entitled ‘Solas’, which has been made using used light bulbs.  Voting takes place on Facebook and each voter receives one vote per day so get voting!  Best of luck girls!

A bit of school history was made last week when the First Year Boys beat Drimnagh Castle 1-0 in the Leinster Cup Soccer quarter final.  They now meet St. Aidan’s Tallaght in the semi-final, a first for the school!  There were great performances from all the team, with the goal from Jamie Murray.  Man of the Match was awarded to Cian Hunt.  Well done and best wishes to all the team.

Well done to Sophie Heaton and Conor Power in first year and members of Poseidon Lifesaving Club Greystones, who participated in the Ireland Schools Lifesaving Championships in Belvedere College recently.  A special mention to Ciara Kelly who won 3rd prize overall in the Senior Category.

The cast and crew of this year’s CCA musical are hard at work rehearsing for the show, which takes place in March. Please contact the Mermaid Arts Centre to enquire about tickets on (01) 272 4030 for the show, which will run from Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th March inclusive.
