25th September 2015

On Friday last, September 25th, all first year students travelled to the National Heritage Park in Ferrycarrig, Co. Wexford.  While there, they were given a tour of the park, which tells the history of Ireland through the ages.  The students were accompanied by their Year Head, Class Tutors and Peer Mentors.

The annual sponsored 10K walk/run/sports activity day is taking place on Wednesday October 7th.  All students and staff will participate in this event and it is also hoped that many parents and members of the local community will join us on the day.  The students will follow two different routes.  Third and fourth year students will do the coastal walk to Greystones, while 1st and 2nd year students will do the coastal walk towards Newcastle.  The 10km run is open to 5th and 6th year students, who also have the option of taking part in a sports activity day in the school.  As part of the event, students are being asked to raise a minimum of €10 sponsorship from family and friends.  There will be a prize from the Parents Association for: (1) the largest individual sponsorship collected in each class in the school; (2) the largest individual sponsorship collected across the whole school and (3) the class that has collected the largest average sponsorship per student in the class.

Diversity Week took place in the school last week.  The theme of the week this year was ‘Personality: Strength lies in difference not in similarities.’  There were beautiful art displays in the school and members of the Student Council spoke at each of the assemblies during the week.  A survey was also carried out during SPHE class to identify the number of different personalities in CCA.

The annual Maths Week will take place from October 5th to 9th.  There will be plenty of activities taking place during the week to encourage our budding 'Einsteins' to put their Maths skills into practice.

Well done to Laoise Cullen in Transition Year who came 5th in the Hammer Throw at the European Clubs Cup in Portugal last weekend.  Laoise also achieved a new PB distance in this event.  Her club, Slí Cualann, were bronze medallists.  Congratulations Laoise!
