4th March 2016

Best wishes to all students who are involved in the school show ‘Crazy For You’, which is taking place in the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray from today, Wednesday March 9th to Friday March 11th inclusive.  Each year, Coláiste Chraobh Abhann’s musical production provides the students with an opportunity to develop socially, personally and artistically by joining the cast of the chosen production.

The TY choir experienced a wonderful evening of music at the annual ‘Emmanuel’ concert at the DCU Helix Theatre last Thursday.  Schools from around the country, including Coláiste Chraobh Abhann, performed at the concert, which is a project of the Dublin Diocesan Liturgical Resource Centre and promotes the use of Sacred Music in Secondary Schools.  Well done especially to JJ Nickels who introduced two songs at the concert.

Last week marked Coláiste Chraobh Abhann’s ‘Arts Week’, which consisted of five days of exhibits and demonstrations to showcase our practical and artistic subjects.  On Monday, the school was rockin’ to the sound of Ms Armstrong’s music students at break and lunch time in the GP area.  This was followed by demonstrations, exhibits, a graffiti wall and more by students from Woodwork, Metalwork, Art and Home Economics for the rest of the week.  Many thanks to all the students and teachers who put in a lot of time and effort to prepare for the week.

A lot of fun is being had ‘as Gaeilge’ this week and next week as part of CCA’s annual Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations.  Students have been ceilí dancing, learning seanfhocail, and taking part in in-class ‘Tráth na gCeist’.  Ms Armstrong also organised a ceilí for Kilcoole Primary School students.   Many thanks to the Irish and music departments for their work in organising the events.

Well done to Carla Turner in first year who won the recent ‘Take Away my Healthy Way’, as part of Healthy Eating Week, with her version of Fish and Chips.  Special recognition also goes to Sinéad Brady, Molly Hayes and Lauren Delamere.

Well done to Transition Year students Alex Synnott, Caitlin O Toole and Grace Bruton who organised a mock General Election among the Transition Year group last week.  The following candidates were elected by the students in CCA: John Brady, Stephen Donnelly, Charlie Keddy, Andrew Doyle and Simon Harris.  Thanks to everyone for voting!

Well done to the First Year Boys Soccer team who had a great 3-2 win over Wexford CBS in the semi-final last week.  The goal scorers were Adam Farrell and Jordan Brady (2), who was also awarded Man of the Match.

Best wishes to the Transition Year students who are representing the school at the Local Enterprise Office Student Enterprise Awards, and to the TY and 5th year students who will represent the school at the Irish Bond Trading Competition event in the Aviva Stadium.  On March 16th, all TY students have been invited to attend the ringing of the bell at the Stock Exchange as part of Global Money Week.
