Congratulations to all the CCA Players’ cast who staged a wonderful production of 12 Angry Jurors in The Castle Inn Theatre over three nights last week. The play was a modern adaptation of the Reginald Rose play 12 Angry Men which was made famous by the 1957 film starring Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb.

The audiences for each night were thoroughly entertained, enjoying the outstanding acting of Rachel Crimes, Yvonne Kavanagh, Reme Atiyota, Marc Brady, Glenda Tigirigi, Matthew Byrne, Ciarán Fox, Ódhran Wall, Colm Flynn, Erika Bellamy, Lars Schwarz, Lucien Aurich, Ryan  Noronha Brennan, Patrick Doyle, Jenitta Jimmy and Natalia Winkel who are TY, 5th and 6th Year students. Backstage and front of house was supported by Ciarán Crimes, Orla Enright Quigley, Maggie May Ryan and lighting was by Victor Cahill.

This was the 10th production by the CCA Players with previous productions including One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Shadow of a Gunman and The Beauty Queen of Leenane.

The play was directed by English teachers Sharon Hennessy and Seán Ó Súilleabháin, who said that they were very proud of all the actors and crew who had been preparing this technically challenging production since last September, and who managed to achieve such a high level of emotional integrity and tension in each performance.

Thanks to Ben and all the staff of The Castle Inn Theatre for all their support and to every teacher and student who assisted with the show.

Over 100 2nd Year students attended the annual Second Year trip to Barcelona from Saturday 28th of April to Tuesday 1st of May.

During their stay they managed to explore the city, visit Barcelona’s iconic stadium Camp Nou, visit the Barcelona Aquarium and the Barcelona Science Museum, before enjoying the thrills and spills of Port Aventura theme park.

Thanks to Mr Ryan for organising this memorable trip, and to the 2nd Year Head Ms Smith and all the teachers for giving up their time to attend this trip and looking after the students so well.

The annual German Exchange took place from Wednesday April 18th to Tuesday April 24th with fourteen students and their teachers from Wurzburg in Germany visiting Coláiste Chraobh Abhann, where they were hosted by fourteen students from CCA. The German students attended some morning classes with their host students to give them a flavour of what life is like in an Irish school.

Some of the activities during the exchange included a trip to Wicklow Gaol, the Greystones to Bray Cliff walk, a visit to Glendalough and a tour of Dublin city. The CCA students will make their return visit to Germany from the 9th to the 14th of May. Thanks to Ms Egan, Mr Kennedy and Ms Buckley for organising this important cultural exchange.

CCA celebrated 2018 YSI (Young Social Innovators) under the theme ‘FIND YOUR FIRE.’ The week focused on how a positive mental health is essential for your personal well-being. TY students left personalised messages for students and staff throughout the school, wishing them a happy and healthy life and to always follow their dreams. The TY students spoke to classes and assemblies throughout the week, and also organised a Zumba class for TY students in the Viewing Gallery. Thanks to Ms Lillis for organising this event.

The Health Promoting Schools would like to remind all the school community that the HPS activities for Term 5 are all up and running, with details on the HPS noticeboard, including a Junior Walk that took place last week.
