Incoming First Year Interviews

On Wednesday, we held our incoming first year interviews. Every year, our incoming cohort of students and their parents attend an interview with a staff member to help with the transition from primary to secondary. This year the interviews were held online. It was lovely to get to meet them all and we look forward to welcoming them to CCA next year.

Greystones Local Hero 2021

Congratulations to our Head Boy, Conor Power, who was recently selected the Greystones Local Hero for 2021. Conor received this award on the back of his heroic efforts to help a swimmer get to safety when they got in trouble in the water during a storm. Well done Conor, we are all very proud of you!

Exemplary Work

CCA’s focus subject for exemplary work in the month of February was History. Students have completed some wonderful pieces of research, along with projects and presentations at both Junior and Senior Cycle. History enhances our students’ research skills, analytic skills and critical/creative thinking. Some of the topics for the research projects included The Battle of Newtownmountkennedy, The Vartry Reservoir and Wicklow Gaol. Well done to all those whose work has been selected for display, which can be viewed on our social media platforms.

World Book Day

On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day in CCA. The chosen theme for the day was “The places we go when we Read”. Students were invited to enter a competition to design a bookmark bases on the chosen theme. They were also invited to guess the five novels that was featured in our World Book Day video. There was also a visit to Junior classes by some of our fifth year students who talked about their favourite books.

6th Year Students

We were delighted to reopen our doors and welcome back our 6th year students and staff on a very sunny and beautiful Monday morning. Well done to all the fantastic students and staff on a great day.

Transition Year News

Stem Workshop

On Thursday our Transition Year students were involved in two STEM online showcase events; while the girls took part in the iWish conference, the boys were attending a Microsoft DreamSpace session. Both of these initiatives inspired students to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths and excite them about the future.

Aistritheorí Óga

Well done to Transition Year students Alexandra Adderley O’Brien and Alanna Plunkett who took part in Aistritheorí Óga on Thursday. It is a Young Translators competition organised jointly by the European Commission and the Irish Government. The competition has three goals to promote a high standard of Irish, to encourage multilingualism among secondary school students and to encourage their interest in careers with Irish. The participants had to translate text from a European language to Irish and competed across six categories including best translation for each province, best translation across Ireland and best translation from a language other than English.
