Students Council:
Coláiste Chraobh Abhann's Student Council represents the voice of the student body. This Council is a formal arena for students to become involved in effective planning, to be given the responsibility of being partners with staff and parents and to be listened to. It creates opportunities for the development of leadership, responsibility and improved communication between staff and students. It ultimately develops as sense of ownership and belonging. A committee of representatives (students elected from 1st-6th year) meet regularly with the Student Council Facilitator. The Deputy Principal and Principal attend these meetings on a regular basis where students address the issues their individual classes have suggested requires attention and, they also deal with concerns students express about existing aspects of the school. We encourage students to be innovative and put forward new ideas and creative solutions to improve daily school life. After each meeting, the student council representatives meet with the principal to discuss the topics raised by student council. Their responses are communicated back to the committee during the subsequent follow up meeting. Student council has grown strength by strength over the years, and we hope this year will be no exception in ensuring the student voice makes a real difference for the better.
The objectives of the Students Council are:
- To promote and develop the educational, social and cultural welfare of all students.
- To provide students with a framework within which decisions may be democratically arrived at and implemented.
- To co-operate with authority for the proper conduct of School Affairs.
- To represent views of students to the Teaching Staff and the School Authorities.
- To actively involve and interest all students in extra-curricular activities such as games, concerts, musicals, drama, quizzes, school magazine, debates, inter-class competitions, charitable organisations etc.
