Arts Week:

This week in CCA we celebrated arts week. Arts week gives the school the change to showcase the creativity of our students and staff. This year arts week took to social media.

On Monday our music department presented a compilation of our 5th year music students. The compilation comprised of extracts from their preparations for their Leaving Certificate performance piece. On Tuesday it was the turn of Home Economics. The compilation comprised of pictures of food that students were required to make in the food studies element of the course. It showed wonderful examples of the Classroom Based Assessments that our home economics students have completed. There were also pictures of projects such as the model bedroom interior design project, junior cert tapestries, TY international cookery and a glimpse into the Leaving Cert Applied and Leaving Cert courses. On Wednesday, the wood technology and construction studies department displayed examples of work that students have created in the woodwork room over the years.

On Thursday we celebrated the creativity of the students in Engineering and Graphics with samples of project work that students have completed over the years in both subjects. On Friday, the art department displayed fabulous pieces that our students have created at both Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle. Well done to all involved.

First Year Competition

This week the first year students were involved in two competitions. There was a photography competition where students were asked to submit their best photography that they have taken. There was also a steps challenge to encourage students to get out and active during the day. The winners will be announced in assembly next week. Good luck to all!

First Year Quiz

On Friday, Mr. Kenny ran a table quiz with the first years and the help of the peer mentors. The table quiz ran over Microsoft Teams with students grouped together in breakout rooms answering questions on different topics.

CCA Book of the Month

Every month CCA celebrates the book of the month, where a book is chosen and promoted in order to try encourage students to read the book that month. This month the book was “The Boy in the Dress” by David Walliams. A big thank you to Transition Year student Naoise Cluskey who pre-read the book in order to create a book cover and plot overview so as to encourage others to read it.

Transition Year News

Transition Year Talk

The Transition Year Enterprise classes are currently focusing on the idea of Social Entrepreneurship. We were fortunate that the founding CEO, John O’Shea, of GOAL held a virtual talk with some of our Transition Year students on Friday. In the talk, he outlined the work that GOAL has done over the years, spoke about the people that have benefited from the work and answered questions the students had. A big thank you to John for taking the time out of his busy schedule to speak to the students.

Young Social Innovators (YSI)

Our Transition Year YSI class have decided to dedicate their time to raising awareness of teenage mental health. They have set up a social media account with the aim of posting a task a day in order to promote and help teenagers look after their mental health. Well done to the students involved in setting up this initiative which will help others during this time.

Transition Year Photography Task

This week, TY students were invited to participate in a photography competition with the theme "a breath of fresh air" with the aim of taking a photo of something beautiful in nature while outside enjoying fresh air. There were some beautiful pictures taken of lakes, sunsets, animals, snowy mountains and rainbows. Well done to all involved.
