Maths Week

This week in CCA we celebrated Maths Week. During maths week we had a "Maths Eyes" competition for junior students where they were encouraged to take pictures of things in the real world where they see maths. There was also a problem of the day for all students and staff to attempt with a daily winner chosen. Our GP Area was a hub of all things numeracy related with giant graphs of our House System points, a height chart where you could see where you measure compared to teachers and celebrities and the Prime Numbers of CCA also featured. Our STEM prefects, Seán and Lucy also visited the assemblies for all year groups and talked about the importance of maths in our lives.

Senior French Debate

Félicitations to our senior French Debating team Emily, Ciara, Hazel and Jeremiah. While they didn't progress to the next round they displayed great dedication, teamwork and language skills. Congratulations to Jeremiah for winning Best Speaker of the night for the second year in a row.

1st Year Soccer Tournament

This week saw the final week of our 1st Year inter tutor soccer tournament. After three great weeks, ten competitive matches and lots of fun 1AGY came out on top as the overall winners. Well done to all the students to took part and a big thank you to Mr. Hughes and Mr. Rice for organising and giving the students the opportunity to play and bond with each other.

Well Read National Award

We are so proud of our entire CCA community for receiving the National Well Read Award 2021-2024. Our students, staff and parents have worked so hard to bring the magic of literacy alive in our everyday lives. In the words of the PDST, "The enthusiasm and creativity of all partners involved was evident in CCA's school portfolio. It was such an enjoyable experience for us to gain an insight into all o the wonderful initiatives you undertook as a whole school community to get everybody reading. We commend you for brining your school together in such an enriching and worthwhile manner and we are delighted to inform you that your school has been successful in becoming a Well Read School 2021-2024". Well done to everyone involved and a special mention goes to Ms.Siobhán Ward in her position as Literacy Coordinator over the past number years.

Exemplary Work

Every month, we choose specific subjects to focus on and we display exemplary work for each of those subjects to showcase the subject. This month, we focused on the subjects Science and French for our Students' Exemplary Work initiative. The material nominated by our Science teachers included anatomical diagrams, independent research and investigation reports, while our French department nominated personal essays, classroom-based assessments and vocabulary exercises. Well done to all of our Exemplary Work Award winners for living out our school ethos of educational excellence in their everyday work!

Student Council

Our first non-uniform day took place on Thursday. We raised the most money the school has ever raised from a non-uniform day and raised a total of 1740. Thank you to the great staff and students who contributed so generously. All proceeds will go to the Gavin Glynn foundation and Women's Aid. Thank you also to our active and enthusiastic student council for the idea and for promoting and collecting for the event.

5th Year Gaisce Awards

Congratulations to our 5th Year students who this week were awarded their Gaisce medals and certificates having completed the course during Transition Year last year. The Gaisce Award is a challenge set by the President of Ireland to young people between the ages of 16 and 25. The students had to take part in an activity in three challenge areas; personal skill, physical skill and community involvement. The aim of the Award is to challenge students while developing their skills and their confidence. Well done to all involved for completing this fantastic achievement. This year, all of our Transition Year students are taking part in the award and we are looking forward to hearing about their Gaisce journey in the coming months.
