U15 Boys Soccer

Well done and congratulations to the boys U15s soccer team and winning their Leinster shield semi final and now reaching the final. A performance all about character and resilience as after 10minutes we were 2-0 down and our backs were against the wall. But like always this season when it’s been tough at times the boys pulled together and displayed fantastic work ethic, teamwork and skill to drag themselves levels at half time. Mason Melia had a lot to say about getting us level at halftime with a captain fantastic performance from midfield again. Both Mason and Ryan Collins scored our first half goals. The teams came out second half even more determined and two more goals came from Mason Melia and Matthew Britton. The final 4-2 scoreline flatters us slightly, as it was very tight till the end. The subs and squad involved must get a mention as it was a real team effort that’s got us to the goal now. Man of the match after a defensive masterclass again goes to Leon Reynolds. Barely anything got past him today. Best of luck to the boys in the final in two weeks time.

Rowing Fundraiser

This week our school community were working together to row 1000km as part of our 1st annual rowing fundraiser. The effort was spear headed by 2nd year student Ben Conway and supported by TY students Ashling Kennedy and Kyle Sheeran. They are fundraising for both the schools Autism class and "My Canine Companion", the charity that trains and provides assistance dogs to people with Autism. The week began with a visit from Pippa and Opal, who are dogs trained by "My Canine Companion" and who belong to students in CCA. We also had a visit by Andy O'Brien to demonstrate good rowing technique. Students, staff and parents have been fantastic helping to clock up the kilometres! IF you would like to support us please drop a donation directly to the school or donate directly to the Parents Council, details of which can by found on our school's Facebook page.

Sports Day

On Thursday, CCA held our annual Sports Day event. The event was a massive success and such an enjoyable day for everyone! Huge thanks goes to Kilcoole GAA Club for permitting us to use their pitches and facilities. Our PE Department organised a fantastic day of fun and activities for all! There was tag rugby, tug of war, penalty shoot outs, long puc, fun races, relay races and loads more! Staff, students and parents worked together to ensure it was a day to remember! What a special day making memories with our whole CCA community. Our selection of photographs below give a flavour of the fun and sportsmanship that was experienced on the day.

East Leinster Athletics

Well done to all our students who took part in the East Leinster Track & Field Championships. Big congratulations to our 3 students who qualified for the next stage of the Leinster’s. Eve Leacy won Gold in the High Jump, Amber Scully took Bronze in Steeplechase and Emma Surmova won Gold in Shot Put.

Junior Girls Football

Congratulations to our girl's junior football team who defeated Avondale Community College in junior semi-final today on a scoreline of 7-10 to 3-4. Well done to all involved and best of luck to the girls in the upcoming final.

TY Trip

On Thursday, TY students travelled to Causey Farm. They spent the day making pizza, pedal boating, going around the farm, bog jumping and participating in team building activities. They then travelled to Drewstown House for an overnight before travelling to Navan Adventure Centre on Friday for a day of archery, human foosball, mini golf and foot-golf. A fantastic two days was had by all. Lots of fun had and many memories made.

TY Workshops

TYs had a very busy start to the final term. Last week on Monday, they had a skipping workshop with Mark from Skip ‘n Rope. They also participated in a Poetry and Creative Writing Workshop with Stephen Murray from Inspireland. Topics included poetry, activism, revolution, wellness, gender, identity and equality. Well done to all TYs for getting so involved.

2nd Year Boys Gaelic Football

A sunny Ballinakill at the Wicklow Centre of Excellence played host to a 2nd Year Wicklow Championship blitz on Thursday, May 5th. CCA played three teams, winning one and losing two. They played against St Kevins, CCM and Carnew. They never really got out of the blocks in the opening game against St Kevins, however, they responded well in the second game against CCM and won comprehensively. In their third, must-win game, they lost out to an impressive Carnew side, but CCA's never-say-die attitude was fantastic to witness. All players received significant game-time, and some of the star performers on the day included Mick Carroll, Jaden Murdif, Charlie Colleran, and Luke Turley. The Wicklow Championship dream ends for this CCA side, but not all is lost yet. For the 2nd Year Gaelic Footballers, attention now turns to the upcoming South Leinster Final against Tullamore College.
