The Crocus Project

Last week, First Year students took part in The Crocus Project. The Crocus Project is an Irish initiative whereby young people plant yellow Crocus bulbs in memory of the 1.5 million Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust and thousands of other children who were victims of Nazi atrocities. Each student got the opportunity to plant a bulb, as a mark of respect and remembrance, for all the young who tragically died during the Holocaust. Thank you to Mr Martin and the entire History department, for organizing this important initiative with our History students.

2nd Year Boys Football

It wasn’t to be for the CCA 2nd Year Footballers this afternoon. Their South Leinster semi-final took place against Castlecomer CS, and the Kilkenny school proved to be a very strong outfit. CCA didn’t perform to their ability in the first half, but their comeback effort in the 2nd half was highly commendable and they walked off the pitch with their heads held high. It was great that all panel members received at least one half of football at an excellent venue at the National GAA Centre of Excellence too. Some of the stand-out performers for CCA included Tom Merriman, Rian Daye, and Joe Keeshan. We wish Castlecomer CS all the best in the final.

6th Year Art History Trip

On Tuesday the 6th Year art students had the opportunity to go to Dublin for an art trip. They went to the National Gallery of Ireland in the morning where they got a tour of the Turner exhibition. They found it really interesting to see his oil and watercolour paintings of landscapes and seascapes. In the afternoon they got the chance to see the street art of Dublin around the Temple Bar area which they really enjoyed. They got to learn a lot on our trip and everyone had a great day.

“Report by Julia Norman 6ACO and Katelyn O’Toole 6JCN”. The guide was really friendly and passionate about street art which made the tour really enjoyable. They got to see the art work of Maser, James Earley, Brutto and Kevin Bohan. Overall it was a great day. Thanks to Julia Norman, Katelyn O'Toole and Holly Doyle for the report.

Junk Kouture

Our Transition Year students have been working tirelessly on their Junk Kouture entries over the past few months with the support of their Art teachers. We are so proud of their final submissions! The students’ creativity, ingenuity and sheer dedication is apparent in every aspect of their work. True excellence in action! Well done to you all!

Healthy Eating Week

This week in CCA we celebrated Healthy Eating Week. This year for Healthy eating week we focused on the importance of eating a healthy breakfast and how it contributes to your mood, your energy levels and how it fuels your brain for learning and study. We looked at the sugar content of the most popular breakfast cereals on our display in the GP area. Our breakfast club was running again every morning this week for students. Massive thank you to the Parents Council for very kindly sponsoring the breakfast club. TY students spoke at assemblies and first year SPHE classes had a poster competition. Big thanks also to donations from MCambridges bread, Fyffes bananas and Kilmeaden cheese for supplying samples for students.

2nd Year Girls Football Blitz

The 2nd Year girls played an inter county blitz on Tuesday in Kilcoole GAA grounds. The girls had a very successful day winning against Woodbrook and St. Mary's and drawing against Gael Colaiste na Mara. As usual, there were stand out performances all over the pitch, with special mentions going to Claire Ginty, Mairead Kruger and Abby Norman. Well done to all the girls on a very positive and enjoyable day.

Incoming 1st Years

CCA was delighted to welcome our incoming 1st Year students on Saturday for their assessment morning, the next step on their "Transition to Secondary School" path. Such a sonderful groups of young students, we look forward to meeting again soon.
