6th Year Biology Trip

On Friday, all of our 6th year Biology students went on a field trip to Dublin Zoo as part of their Ecology studies. As part of the trip they investigated factors affecting the grassland habitat in Phoenix Park. A big thank you to Dublin Zoo for facilitating the day.

Gaeltacht Trip

Last weekend, 24 TY and 5th Year students, along with Ms. Doran, Mr. Ryan and Ms. Phillips, travelled to the Gaeltacht in Belmullet, Co. Mayo to attend Coláiste Uisce. They spent the weekend pier jumping, rafting, body boarding, swimming, doing archery and rocking climbing all while speaking Irish. Lots of fun was had by the students while they also got to develop their irish skills and their love of the language.

Open Night

Open Night in CCA is always a special evening. Our community assemble in the fabulous, well-maintained facilities and experience the unique CCA atmosphere where staff and students showcase our mission statement "striving for educational excellence and believing in mutual respect". Due to the current restrictions and the cancellation of the evening for 2021 we decided this year to have a student led production, created by TY students Sam, Mohammed, Nathan and Theo with the assistance of Mr. Redmond. We invite you all to enjoy the addresses of our Principal and our Head Boy and Head Girl. Our production is currently available on all our social media channels. We hope you gain an insight into the valuable school experience which our students enjoy each day in Coláiste Chraobh Abhann.

Student of the Month

Students were presented with their Student of the Month Awards at assembly time this week. This special CCA initiative has been a focus of our school approach to promoting the holistic development of each student. The students who received the awards have excelled in all areas of school life during the past month. Well done to all the award winners.

Green Flag Renewal

Congratulations to our entire CCA community on being awarded the Green Flag in recognition of the hard work that has gone into keeping our school a litter free zone. A special acknowledgement goes to our Green Schools' Committee for their dedication to the Litter and Waste theme. The past year was a challenging one but thanks to plenty of ingenuity and student initiative, we were successful! Our renewal flag will arrive shortly and we look forward to raising it in honour of the unparalleled respect and excellence we demonstrate in all areas of school life.

Parents' Council Clothes Collection

Our Parents' Council have organised a clothes collection to help all households with a clear out. Unwanted clothing, curtains, bedding (except pillows or duvets), scarfs, hats, shoes in pairs, costume jewellery etc. are all welcome. Bagged clothing can be dropped into the school between 2pm and 4pm on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th of October and also between 9am and 11am on Saturday 16th of October.

1st Year Soccer

This week saw the second round of our 1st year inter tutor soccer blitz. Four matches took place with one week remaining to decide on the winners. 1AGY won both of their matches and are now at the top of the table with all other teams only one win behind. All is to play for on the last week for the top spot. Well done to all involved!

Study Skills Week

This week we celebrated Study Skills week in CCA. We are very passionate about our programme of study skills which is embedded in our current curriculum and gives our students opportunities for "learning to study". There were lots of chances for students to improve their skills this week and to showcase their already learned processes and techniques that they use to ensure information is organised and retained. Throughout the week there were two competitions running with students invited to share pictures of their study space at home and to share a quote that motivates them.

5th year students had a maths focused study skills class where their maths teachers went through the most effective way to study maths while the 3rd years completed the same with their Irish teachers. Our Peer Mentors spent time with their first years helping them plan their study timetable, organise their study folders and gave them tips on what works for them. 4th year students completed the same task with 2nd years. We also had visits from past students who gave study tips to our 6th years. Overall, the week was a big success. A big thank you to Ms. Wright and all the students involved that helped bring it all together.

Senior Students Careers Talk

This weeks lunchtime talk was on Careers in Business and Administration. Senior students who were interested in this topic had the opportunity to attend the talk on Thursday to learn more about the career.

House Points

It has been a big week for house points this week with the Student of the month awards adding nicely to the totals.

The big story from this week is pine house, who have been supporting the houses from bottom position in recent weeks, have been gaining on the group and a big week this week has seen them move into second place. Well, done to all involved.

Class Captains Training

On Tuesday, our Class Captains from 1st to 6th year took part in a training workshop with Ms. Ward which helped prepare and support them for their leadership roles in our school. They took time to consider the values that are important to them as student leaders and to reflect on the core values of the CCA community.
