1st Year Girls Basketball

The 1st Year Girls had their first match of the year on Thursday and played against Avondale Community College. The girls won the match 18-12 with standout performances from Nicole McCauley and Claire Ginty. Well done girls!

1st Year Girls Football

Our 1st Year Girls Football team took part in the 1st Year Girls Blitz in Blessington last week. The girls played three matches against CCM, Coláiste Raithin and St. Davids and came away with three convincing wins. All the girls were super but player of the day was Yasmin Bishop. Well done to all involved!

Seachtain na Gaeilge

This week in CCA we celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge. Students were encouraged to use their Irish both inside and outside the classroom. A range of activities were held for Junior and Senior students which included daily challenges for students to try. Points were awarded for each challenge to see who the winning student and the winning class was in each year. There were interactive assemblies where students competed in a Seanfhocail quiz and had the opportunity to dress up. Tráth na gCeist also took place in a number of Irish classes during the week. Well done to all involved and especially the Irish department for facilitating.

Students of the Month & TY Blogger

This week our Students of the Month for February were awarded to each year group during assembly. The Student of the Month Awards initiative has been a focus of our school's approach to promoting the holistic development of each student. The students who received the awards have excelled in all areas of school life during the past month. Our TY Bloggers of the month were also awarded during TY assembly on Monday. Well done to all the award recipients!

Trinity College Exhibition Award

Congratulations to former CCA student, Lucy Shortt, who was bestowed with the Trinity College Entrance Exhibition Award this week for receiving the highest points as an undergraduate entrant to the college from our school. Lucy is currently studying French and Philosophy at TCD and we wish her all the best in her future studies.

Student Council

Our Student Council have been very proactive during the past weeks. They held a presentation of a cheque to Womens Aid from their recent non uniform day and they were also working with ISSU and promoting the purchase of the international student identity card. Well done all!

Saturday Study Hub

Our Saturday Study Hub kicks off this week from 10am to 1pm and costs €3 pay as you. It's a fantastic opportunity to get some study or school work done in a quiet and focused environment. All students are welcome to utilise this opportunity and should contact Ms. O'Driscoll for more information.

TY Drumming

On Wednesday and Friday of last week, our TY students took part in drumming workshops facilitated by Neil from Drum Nature. Students learned all about drumming techniques and traditional West African Drumming, with focus on the experience of playing traditional African rhythms as well as some background into the origin and history of the music and instruments. A big thank you to Neil for facilitating such an enjoyable experience for our students.

Junk Kouture

The first round of Junk Kouture has been completed and we are delighted to announce that this year, two of our dresses have made it through to the Junk Kouture regional finals which take place from the 21st to the 27th of March. Only 50 designs are selected from each region so this is a massive achievement. Congratulations to our TY students Sadhbh Murphy, Ella McAulay and Oliwia Ninard on their dress "Ditzy Discs" and to Saoirse Finnerty, Kate Wilson and Rachel Leacy for their dress "The Daily Dress". We wish them the best of luck in the finals!

TY LIFT Programme

A group of TY students took part in the "Leading Irelands Future Together" (LIFT) training programme for the last number of weeks where they have been developing their own positive leadership by focusing on LIFTS 8 leadership values - Listening, Positive attitude, Competence, Honesty, Dedication, Respect, Empathy and Accountability. They have now embarked on a 5 week facilitation programme where they will work as a team to share their knowledge and encourage positive leadership among junior students.

Relove Fashion

The Relove Fashion Grand Final took place on Thursday. Out of 19 finalists, the judges had the difficulty of whittling it down to 5 finalists to be chosen for the following categories: Best Casual, Best Evening, Most innovative, Best Tailoring and Overall Winner. Best Tailoring was awarded to Holly Eager from Coláiste Chraobh Abhann, This outfit was made from unwanted jeans donated by friends and family, her dad's ties, an old bed sheet, an old childhood dress and some scrap fabric. the textiles included denim/cotton, polyester and silk. Holly did some great research on these fabrics. The standard was so high this year and everyone who participated has made a wonderful contribution to sustainable fashion. All finalists will be exhibited in the Rediscovery Centre until Saturday 12th March. Well done Holly!

TY First Aid

Last week, our Transition Years embarked on their First Aid journey! Each of our Transition Years completed a full day course on First Aid and manual handling. They will be completing the practical element of the course next month.
