Senior Boys Football

Our Senior Footballers had a great win in their first match of the season versus St Farnans, Prosperous, Co. Kildare. The first half was evenly contested with both sides enjoying periods of dominance. A great penalty save by Luke Davidson and two goals by Jack Collier allowed CCA to lead by 6 at the break. The second half was far more one sided with our lads lifting pace and using the ball much better, running out convincing winners on a scoreline of 3-15 to 1-09. Our top performers were Ryan Harrison who scored an impressive 1-08, Ryan Clarke who had an excellent game at corner back and Eanna Nolan and Sean Byrne who controlled the game around the middle. Scorers: Ryan Harrison 1-08, Jack Collier 2-00, Joe Heatley 0-02, Leon Reynolds 0-02, Josh Healy 0-01, Daragh Heffernan 0-01, Eanna Nolan 0-01.

BT Young Scientist Finalists:

Three of our TY students, Ava Smith McGarry, Grace Cullen and Aisling Doyle, have been accepted to represent the school in this year’s BT Young Scientist in the RDS. This is a significant accomplishment to be one of the 550 selected projects as there were over 1700 applicants. They are conducting an investigation on What type of Tree or Tree Families will slow down the rate at which a Forest Fire spreads, creating a Fire Boundary around woodland areas that are at risk for forest fires. Everyone in our school community is very proud of these students. Best of luck in January girls!

Camogie

Hard luck to our camogie team who lost out to St. Davids, Greystones this week. Great performances from Chloe Lowry and Ella Ryan in the backs and Sadhbh Furlong and Aisling Doyle in the forwards. The team captain, Maeve Butler demonstrated great leadership and played brilliantly alongside Marie Joyce in midfield. Well done girls.

Science Week

This week we celebrated Science Week in CCA. This year the theme of science week was 'Infinite possibilities'. Each morning TY students and peer mentors visited junior tutors with the daily image for 'what is under the microscope'. Each day a winner was picked from each tutor. Senior students and teachers were encouraged to participate also. The ISTA are running a photo competition with the theme 'Sustainability'. Students were encouraged to submit an entry and there were some wonderful prizes up for grabs. Junior students partook in a science quiz in class head-to-head science class against science class. TY students undertook the task of protecting their class honour in the form of protecting an egg which will drop from a height. There were 'infinite possibilities' for their design to protect their egg. Other activities such as methane bubbles, slime and a science table quiz occurred during the week. Well done to everyone involved.

Senior Girls Football

On Thursday our Senior Girls Football team played a blitz in Kilcoole GAA Grounds. The girl's played two matches against The Dominican and Baltinglass. The girls played superb and qualified for the Senior A Shield County Final. Standouts on the day were Maeve Butler, Ella McAulay, Sophie Murray Lacey, Eva Doyle and team captain Charlotte Nagle. Details of the county final will be released shortly. We're very proud of all involved.
