Week of 8th March

Seachtain na Gaeilge

This week we celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge with a number of activities planned throughout the week in order to encourage the use Gaeilge in all parts of life. On Monday, we had “Dúshlán CCA”, meaning CCA challenge, where students had to complete as many challenges as they could out of ten. These challenges included; translating the chorus of a song into Gaeilge and training a pet to do a trick through Gaeilge.

On Tuesday, we looked at some facts about Seachtain na Gaeilge and some interesting facts about Gaeilge. We also highlighted how Gaeilge can be used on Social Media, such as following Irish based accounts and taking part in Irish language groups.

On Wednesday we looked at the importance of noting the ventral role that Irish has in relation to our identity , that our identity as a nation lies in the history and culture of Ireland and it’s language.

Throughout the week various quizzes took place during tutorial time including naming famous Irish people, translating famous musicians from Irish to English and expanding abbreviated well known Irish phrases. There was also a Treasure Hunt on Tuesday.

Teachers were also given some useful phrases and asked to try and bring in some Irish phrases into their own subjects throughout the week.

Third Year Live Cookalong

As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, third year Gaeilge students took part in a live cookalong during Irish class. They did a fantastic job making scones, following their múinteoir and a recipe as Gaeilge. Some students even embarked on baking for the very first time. Maith sibh!

CCA Showstoppers

In the course of the week that would traditionally see CCA’s musical kicking off, we are delighted to announce the launch of CCA ShowStoppers Talent Show. The Showstoppers Committee is inviting entries from all students for a wide variety of categories including; Speech, Drama and Poetry, Dance, Gymnastics & Sports Tricks, Musical Performance, Comedy Sketches and Magic. There is even a teacher category for our hugely talented staff. Thirty second auditions are due by Friday March 19th with the Talent Show to be held in April. Good luck to everyone auditioning!
