Enterprise Exchange and Tánaiste Visit

Our Student Leadership team and Senior Management team were delighted to welcome the Táiniste Leo Varadkar TD, the Minister for Further & Higher Education Simon Harris TD and members of our school community to Coláiste Chraobh Abhann today.

The visit coincides with the Erasmus plus programme “To train your own Sustainapreneur” taking place in CCA this week. In November 6 students and 2 teachers were hosted by students from Gimnazija Novo Mesto secondary school(Slovenia). In February another 6 students and 2 teachers headed to Estonia and hosted by Parnu SÜTEVAKA HUMANITAARGÜMNAASIUM (Estonia).

This week CCA was hosting both countries. The students have been taking part in a variety of workshops. On Tuesday, they were put into groups and each group visited a local business. Students were given a tour of the business and were required to come up with some sustainable recommendations for the business. They presented these recommendations in front of the two minsters. Well done to all involved and to our business department Mr Hughes, Ms. Page and Ms. Counihan for facilitating!

Junk Kouture

Last Thursday, Ditzy Discs took to the stage at the Grand Final of Junk Kouture in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre Dublin. The girls spent the entire day in the theatre perfecting their performance, working on make-up and preparing for a visit from the judges. Sadhbh looked extremely glamorous in the dress and received endless compliments from everyone including Louis Walsh who said it was one of his favourites. They were invited by RTE to take part in a photo and video shoot for use in promos so keep a look out on RTE 2 over the coming weeks!

Only 9 designs were selected last night to go to the world finals in Abu Dhabi and unfortunately Ditzy Discs were not one. However there is a wildcard and they've been awarded this before so you never know!!

The energy at the show was electric and we had great support from staff, family and friends which made it a very memorable night. Mr Mc Rory is extremely proud of the girls and what they have achieved. They represented the school at the highest level and they did it in style!

Leinster Rugby

Congratulations to Conor O’Mahony who was part of the Greystones RFC U16 team that won the u16 Leinster YS Cup in the Energia stadium last Sunday. Well done Conor!

Senior Football

Our Senior Boys Football team defeated St. Kevin's Dunlavin in the Wicklow Semi Final on Thursday. It was a close game but CCA pulled away at the end to win on a margin of 9 points. A special mention to Keevan Doyle, Sean Byrne, Eanna Nolan and Ciaran Murphy for their excellent contribution. They now progress to CCA's first ever Senior A final against Carnew. Good luck lads!

Junior Girls Football

Best of luck to the junior girls football team in the junior shield final on Monday against St. Kevin's Dunlavin.

TY News

On Thursday and Friday, TY students completed their Driver Education Course with the Irish School of Excellence. Students learned about road safety, car mechanics and how to change a wheel safely. They also learned about the rules of the road and completed a module in preparation for the Driving Theory Test. They got to experience "beer goggles" and their effects and also got to drive a car with a qualified instructor.

Peer Mentor Showcase

On Monday, we held our Peer Mentor Showcase. Peer Mentors are 5th year students who are chosen as leaders to help first year students with the transition from primary to secondary school. As part of their application, they are required to submit a project that represents them and what would make them a good peer mentor. They then had to present to the selection committee and showcase their project. The projects and presentations this year were phenomenal and it made it extremely difficult to choose only 17 peer mentors. Well done to all for the huge effort made for applying and to all who were successful in becoming a peer mentor.

Webwise

Oliwia Ninard received her award from Webwise as our Safer Internet Day Ambassador for CCA. Oliwia ran an outstanding campaign bringing awareness about online safety to the school community. Congratulations to Oliwia for her wonderful achievement.

Forensics Workshop

On Wednesday, TY students had a forensics and criminology workshop with Pat from Forensic Fun. Students learned about the assassination of JFK. They looked at different evidence and clues to try and recreate what had happened. Fingerprinting and ballistics were also part of the workshop. Finally, students learned about careers in forensics.

Chinese Workshop

On Thursday, TY students took part in Chinese Studies workshops with teachers from the UCD Confucius Institute. Students learned all about Chinese culture and language while also participating in a Chinese calligraphy workshop.
