Junior Girls Football
Well done to our Junior Girls Footballers who competed in the Junior A and B blitz in Ballinakill on Thursday. With two teams competing there were lots of game time for everyone. The girls put in tireless performances for each of the six games that were played and demonstrated wonderful skill and determination throughout the day. Standout performers on the day were Yasmin Bishop, Anna Doyle, Ruby Parker, Laura Ginty, Abbey Brennan and Saoirse Briggs.
First History Trip and Bonding Day
On Monday our First Year students travelled to the Irish National Heritage Centre in Ferrycarrig to learn about Ancient Ireland and the Vikings. The tour gave students a real sense of living during historic periods such as the Neolithic, Bronze, Celtic, Viking and early Christian periods. After the trip they returned to school where they did activities with the Peer Mentors. These activities included cards, Just Dance, Dodgeball and writing letters about themselves. Students were divided into groups to help them integrate with each other and make new friends. Well done to all involved.
St. Catherine's School
Last week we were delighted to welcome some students from St. Catherine’s School to CCA. The students spent a lovely morning, chatting and learning alongside our Transition Year students. This will be a weekly event for both schools and we look forward to many more fun mornings over the months ahead!
First Year Boys Football
Our First Year football team had their final group game in the Wicklow Championship in Kilcoole. They played Avondale Community College in a great game of football that was played in fantastic spirit. The more the year has gone on the better this team has become and today was the day the result fell our way with a score line of 5:9 to 5:3. It was a game of two halves with a strong wind where we started the better and had a good lead at half time. To Avondale’s credit they came out firing in the 2nd half and pushed us all the way. Critical scores at the right time in the second half being the big difference. A variety of scorers and player of the match performances from Oscar Kelly, James Dutton and Rocky Dowds to name a few and a crucial point near the end to give some breathing space from Abiel Palavila being a huge factor in the result.Well done all on great game!!
Archery Achievement
Huge congratulations goes to our Transition Year student, Aislinn Edwards, who took part in the Irish Indoor Open Championship in Archery last Saturday. Aislinn was awarded with the gold medal for her category! Aislinn is currently on the National Youth Squad and her next big goal is to compete for Ireland in the World Youth Championships. Well done Aislinn! We are all so proud of you and wish you the best of luck in your training!
Diversity Week
This week in CCA we celebrated Diversity week, a celebration of inclusion and belonging where we acknowledge and support the diversity and uniqueness of all the staff and students who make up our wonderful CCA community. The theme for the week was about recognising our uniqueness and that there is unity in diversity.
Amongst the many activities planned throughout the week were; a 'human library' where students from various backgrounds and cultures will share their stories with other students and staff, speeches at assemblies, quizzes on important black people, Junior SPHE quizzes run by TYs, bake sale fundraiser, posters with support organisations around the school and displays for tutor time.
On Thursday, members of our Diversity Committee displayed clothes and belongings from across the globe, as well as provided all students with the opportunity to display a diverse range of flags on their hands and faces thanks to our talented group of face painters. Well done to all involved in putting together such a fantastic week.
