TY Geography Field Trip

On Thursday, Ms.Egan's TY geography class conducted a geographical investigation into urban land use and traffic flow in Kilcoole. The investigation involved them carrying out a series of surveys and questionnaires with local residents. This allowed active and collaborative learning to occur and gave the students an opportunity to develop their research, data collection and analytical skills. Students will now be synthesising the information in the coming weeks and presenting their results in class, further developing their communication skills.

House Points Competition

On Thursday morning, we held our first house system assembly. The captain and vice captain of each house introduced themselves and spoke about the first house competition. As part of language week, there were 10 translations hidden around the school with students invited to enter a competition to win house points for their house. Well done to all involved.

Club Gaeilge

We are delighted that Club Gaeilge will be starting in CCA next week. On Wednesday after school and Thursday lunchtime students are being given the opportunity to develop their love of Irish as well as immerse themselves in Irish through games and chat. We would encourage all to take part as it would help to improve their spoken Irish which will benefit them in their studies.

Languages Week

This week we celebrated languages week in CCA and promoted the rich linguistic diversity of Europe. We had numerous activities running including flag handpainting, quizzes for first years on European countries, a teacher quiz testing phrases in Spanish and French. We had a lunchtime film club with a French film shown on Tuesday and a Spanish film shown on Thursday. We also had a German workshop Tuesday taught by our resident German teacher which gave our students an introduction to German. The school was also beautifully decorated with language posters to promoting the different languages. Well done to all involved!

Class Captains

This week our class captains were elected. Our class captains are one boy and one girl from each tutor group voted in by their class. Our class captains represent the student body and embody the school ethos of mutual respect and academic excellence. On Thursday we presented them with their badges and congratulated them on their election to this hugely important position. Our class captains look forward to representing their tutor classes and working with the whole school community to promote the student voice. Well done and good luck to all our class captains for this year.

Happy Mind Challenge

On Monday we marked the start of the Happy Mind Challenge for our TY students. this is a pilot project with the Happy Pear and KWETB. Students and staff will be tracking steps, sleep, phone use and much more with each tutor group and the teachers competing against each other. To start the challenge, Steve and Dave Flynn gave a talk to our TYs explaining what was expected of them. They gave each student a smart watch to track their activities and provided lunch to all participating students and staff. We are looking forward to see the development of all participants over the coming weeks.

6th Year Mentor Programme

Our 6th year mentor programme restarted this week. Each student has a teacher as their mentor. The aim of this programme is to raise academic standards and educational excellence and to provide our students with the support that they need to help them fulfil their potential. Mentors listen, motivate, encourage, support and advise their mentees in school related matters over the course of the programme. The first of this years meetings occurred this week where there was a review of summer reports and goals were set for the coming year. Our 5th year mentor programme will also begin in the coming weeks.

Library Club

We were delighted this week to reopen our library club at lunch time. Library club give the students the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful space, to play board games, read, chat with friends and make new friends during their break from teaching and learning. The club is open to all students daily at lunchtime and we would encourage all to take advantage of it.

Irish Soccer

A huge congratulations to 3rd Year Joe Collins and 2nd Year Mason Melia who both played for the Irish Under 15 team against Montenegro in Podgorcia on Tuesday, winning 2-0. They played again on Thursday and narrowly lost out 1-0. Well done to both boys on such a big achievement!

Senior Students Virtual Careers Talks

This year, virtual career talks will take place every Thursday at lunchtime in G3. Any interested 4th, 5th and 6th year students are welcome to attend. There will be a different career area discussed each week, with a variety of different colleges presenting. These talks are very informative, and we would recommend students to make an effort to attend if a particular area of interest comes up for them. Anyone that is interested in the talk but cannot attend should contact Ms. Garvey who will arrange to send them a link to it. This week's talk was on Careers in Accounting, Business and Finance.
