Wicklow County Final Student Enterprise Winners:

CCA staff and students are very proud of our excellent achievements in the Wicklow County Final of the Student Enterprise Programme, culminating in the winning of the Junior Category. We had four First Year and four Transition Year Mini companies taking part in the final. In the Senior category, Sophie Hamilton won best video presentation for her mini company Biscuit Bear Prints. The judges were highly complimentary of her entertaining presentation where she managed to animate herself during her video.

In the Junior category, we had two companies receive special commendations with RF Bath Salts and Cable Tamers. Another company, Pampered Paws were runners up.

A huge congratulations to Oisin Reynolds, Cian O’Brien and Rosie Davis of The Sugar Shack who won the overall Junior category and now go on to represent Wicklow in the All Ireland Final! Well done to the excellent students and our excellent, dynamic business department teachers who go the extra mile in supporting the students.

National Tree Week

This week we celebrated National Tree Week 2021. At CCA we are especially proud that the tree represents our identity as a school community. The tree is a living, vibrant and continually growing entity. It is life-giving, prolific and firmly rooted. It symbolises the dynamism of our school culture and demonstrates the power of renewal. Now more than ever, we need to recognise the value of planting and protecting trees, woods and forests. This week our school community was asked to join our Green Schools Committee by taking a photograph of their favourite tree and to explain why it was special to them in order to acknowledge the importance of trees for our planet and for our human and animal existence.

Green Schools Committee Pollinator

This week our Green Schools Committee wanted to promote awareness about pollinator gardens, why we need them, who they benefit and how a little effort from us can go a long way to help struggling pollinator insects in our area. Each day, our committee shared an informative post on our social media platforms about pollinator gardens with the hope of encouraging more people to create a pollinator area in their garden in order to help the environment.

First Year Competition

The first years in CCA have been taking part in some wellbeing activities over the past few weeks. The first challenge was to reach 1500km through walking, running, or cycling. The students had 2 weeks to complete the challenge. There was a fantastic uptake from students, and we ended up with 1644.61 km overall. There were some brilliant efforts by all but the student who did the most was Ailbhe Fagan with 237.51km. Of the tutors Mrs Phillips was top of the class with 202.85km.

This week students have been asked to get involved in a baking activity to take a break from screens and bake something for someone who has helped them over lockdown. Well done to all that got involved.

Young Social Innovators (YSI)

The YSI programme that our Transition Years are involved in is all about encouraging young people to re-imagine the world and empowering them to bring their vision to life. This years group have chosen to tackle the issue of Teenage Mental Health. As part of the project, the students are required to create a video “Speakout” where they give details of the issue, the research they have done and the action they have taken. Our YSI class have just uploaded their powerful video to our social media channels which concentrates on the impact the Pandemic has taken on Teenagers and their mental health. Well done to all involved!
