College Awareness Week
This week in CCA we celebrated National College Awareness week. Thanks to the guidance department we had numerous activities organised throughout the week. Teachers were asked to contribute by sharing information about their career pathways which was displayed in the GP area for all to see. Students were also encouraged to ask their teachers about their college experience and career paths. 1st year and 2nd year students created wonderful displays depicting their dream jobs which were also on display in the GP area.
On Wednesday we held a careers fair where past pupils were invited in to speak about their chosen career path and their college experience so far. A huge thank you to everyone that came in. It was wonderful to welcome our past pupils back to our community and to hear how they have been getting on since they left CCA. Thank you to the guidance department for organising a wonderful week.
U16 Girls Basketball
Hard luck to the U16 girls who played an excellent quarter final against St. Mary’s Arklow. The girls kept the game very close all the way up to the last few minutes of the game. Well done to all the girls with particular mention to Arabelle McCann and Nicole McCauley. The team have put in excellent work throughout the year and have made great improvements.
U15 Boys Soccer
Well done to our Boys U15 Team who drew with Templecarrig Greystones today. The final score was 1-1 with a late equaliser from Joe Keashin. There were standout performances all around, but a special mention must go to Ryan McDonald and Rocky Dowds in defence, Leon O’Connor in Central midfield and Joe Keashin’s constant threat on the wings. Man of the match was Jack Gummerson in Goal, who pulled off some exceptional saves in the second half. The lads will play St. David’s on Monday in their last league group game.
Irish Dancing
Huge congratulations to Lucy Ferrick, a first year student, who was ranked 5th in the Leinster Irish Dancing Championships in Tallaght. She is a member of the Janice White school of dancing in Kilcoole. This is a massive achievement. We wish her the best of luck in the World Championships in Killarney next April.
Senior Girls Soccer
A huge well done to our Senior Girls Soccer Team, who had a superb 5-4 victory over Loretto Bray today. An excellent display of football from both sides seen our girls come from behind on 3 occasions, to grind out the win. Lots of excellent performances and many debuts today in our squad, with special mentions to Keelin Dodd, Sophie Murray Lacey & Yasmin Bishop. Naoise Lowe, Eva Doyle and Nicole McCauley were all instrumental in the victory coming from the bench to get CCA the win. Goalscorers on the day Yasmin Bishop (2) Keelin Dodd, Kiera Farrelly & Eva Doyle (1each). The girls play CCM away next Tuesday in our next league game. Well done to the whole squad on an excellent result!
U19 Girls Basketball
Hard luck to the U19 Basketball team, they lost out to Dominican College Wicklow in the plate competition today. A massively improved performance was seen in some aspects of the game including passing and defence. Unfortunately our accuracy didn’t allow us to close the gap on a strong Dominican team.
Student Congress
On Tuesday 21st November, Coláiste Chraobh Abhann held a Student Congress, a regular feature on our school calendar, that occurs twice per year. The Student Congress is an opportunity for students to actively participate in school development. Student voice was the theme for this congress and it was attended by 84 students comprised of the Student Council, Student Prefect Team and Class Captains. It was led by our Head Boy, Cayden Elliott and Head Girl, Ella McAuley and co-ordinated by Ms Page. Ken Scully, Director of Schools, was also in attendance. Students discussed how student voice is active in CCA and highlighted areas that are working well and areas that could be improved. An afternoon of lively discussion was had and it was a most enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
