Week of 26th April
Literacy Week
This week was literacy week in CCA which had lots of activities for students, staff and parents. A poetry and short story competition ran throughout the week with a theme of Hope, New Beginnings or a subject of choice. We had a Poetry Corner set up in the GP Area which displayed the wonderful work of our CCA poets. Our parents shared a padlet which had details of their favourite books. Our teaching staff provided a daily book recommendation on our social media. We also had a daily competition: What book begins with this line. Students were asked to recognise the first line of a well known book, with a winner chosen each day.
CCA Readathon
As part of literacy week, a number of our 1st, 2nd, TY and 5th year students took part in a readathon in aid of the school library. The aim of the day was to encourage reading across all age groups while using the opportunity to raise money for the school library and our literacy programme. Forty of our students took part and it was fantastic to see them so engrossed in their novels. We are really proud of all the students that participated and we hope to be in a position to allow even more students attend next year.
Bank of Ireland Money Smarts
On Tuesday 27th April, 8 of our 5th year business students participated in the Bank of Ireland Money Smarts Challenge. This was a national competition and our students competed with 300 other teams to progress to the finals. They answered several rounds of questions in relation to investing, borrowing and general business knowledge. Although, they did not win the competition, their teachers were extremely proud of their efforts. Well done to all involved.
Wicklow Enterprise Awards
This week we had a visit from our enterprise office to award our first year students who were recently successful in the Wicklow enterprise awards. We had four prize winners with two special commendation prizes, a runners up and the overall Junior winner. Congratulations to all and best of luck to Rosie Davis, Cian O’Brien and Oisin Reynolds who are taking part in the All Ireland Final in the coming weeks.
