Carol Singing
The music students were delighted once again to be able to share the 'Festive Spirit' among the local community. Our First Year Music students had the honour of visiting Greystones nursing home on Tuesday to visit residents and participate in some Carol Singing. It was wonderful to be invited by past pupil Roisin Keegan to spread Christmas cheer in the local community. First Year students showcased a variety of Christmas classics accompanied by our talented Music teacher, Ms. Webster. Both students and residents enjoyed a very festive afternoon and a lovely start to the Christmas season. Well done to Ms. Webster on a beautiful Choral arrangement and to the Music class for sharing their talents. Second years visited Kilcoole Lodge Nursing Home on Wednesday 7th of December. Both residents and students benefited greatly from the experience. Well done to all involved!
Senior Boys Football
Hard luck to our Senior Footballers who lost out to Arklow CBS in the first game of the Wicklow Championship on a scoreline of CCA 3-08 Arklow CBS 5-05
The lads should be happy with their performance against a strong Arklow side with the result in the balance right up until the last few minutes. Top performers for us today were Leon Reynolds, Ryan Clarke, Cameron Brady & Sean Byrne
Remembrance Tree
Huge thanks to the Parent’s Council for sponsoring our Remembrance Tree this year and for allowing our very special tradition to continue in 2022. Transition Year students and Prefects have been hard at work decorating the tree with memories of family and friends who are not with us this Christmas. It is an opportunity for staff and students to stop and take a moment at this busy time of year to honour loved ones. All funds collected this week will go to the Wicklow Hospice.
U19 Boys Badminton
Congratulations to the U19 Boys Badminton team who had a comprehensive 6-0 win against Templecarrig. Having topped their group, they are now waiting to hear who their opposition is for the quarter finals. Well done lads!
Stationary Shop
The CCA Student Council are delighted to launch our Stationery Shop this week! Come and find us in the GP Area if you are in need of any stationery equipment. From re-fill pads to highlighters, we have everything you need! This week we are also proud to present our Study Packs for students which have been specially put together by our Student Council members. The packs are customised for Junior and Senior Cycle students and should help to make study and revision easier!
Student Congress
Last Wednesday we held our first CCA Student Congress of the year. We had participation from our various student leadership teams as members of our Prefect Team, Student Council and Class Captain Team came together to discuss developments across the year groups. A number of focus areas were identified and great feedback was collated by all involved. Thanks goes to Ms. Page, our Student Council Coordinator, for organising the event and also to our very own 5th Year student and Comhairle na nÓg member, Cayden Elliott, for facilitating the session. We were delighted to have an opening address from Mr. Dermot O’ Brien, head of Wicklow Comhairle na nÓg and we look forward to re-convening the Congress next April.
Student of the Month
This special CCA initiative has been a focus of our school's approach to promoting the holistic development of each student. The students who received the awards have excelled in all areas of school life during the past month. Well done to award winners!
Knitting & Stitching
Merry Christmas from the knitting and stitching group. We are a small group of students who meet during lunchtime on Friday under the direction of Ms Webster. Some students are learning the skill as part of their Gaisce, some to develop the sustainable craft of knitting while for others it is a source of mindfulness in the midst of out busy week in CCA, a timeout from out hectic schedules. Knitting/crafting improves cognitive functions and boosts self-confidence with an amazing product to show for all your hard work. Newcomers are welcome to in us in January.
