The second session of our Teaching & Learning Club was hosted by Mr. Gavin Kenny and focused on Effective and Meaningful Peer and Teacher Feedback. The aims of this session were to understand the importance of opportunities for peer and self-assessment in class, to consider ways of making peer and self-assessment more meaningful, and lastly to explore some simple feed-back strategies from teachers. Teachers explored the importance of success criteria for students and considered strategies such as using student work-samples and teacher-modelled responses in order to demonstrate what high-quality work looks like to a class group. The use of the SIR technique was also introduced to staff whereby students must reflect on the strengths, areas for improvement and responses to a specific piece of work. Staff engaged in a fun group activity to assess their own piece of work and that of another individual, using the criteria provided. Effective assessment continues to be an integral part of the wonderful work our CCA teaching team carry out on a daily basis for the benefit of our students.
