Under section 9(g) of the Education Act 1998, all schools are under a duty to "ensure that parents of a student, or in the case of a student who has reached the age of 18 years, the student, have access in the prescribed manner to records kept by that school relating to the progress of that student in his or her education."
Due to the introduction of the GDPR in May 2018, our KWETB Data Protection Policy, section 2.1 now states; “Pursuant to section 9(g) of the Education Act 1998, we will communicate all matters related to a student's progress with his/her parent/guardian until such time that s/he attains 18-years-of-age.”
Complying with GDPR, once the student reaches the age of 18, the school is legally obliged to share their personal data directly with him/her only.
Please read the letter below carefully to ensure that you are fully aware of the implications of GDPR for you and your child (Over 18).
