CCA Showstoppers

On Wednesday evening Coláiste Chraobh Abhann hosted our second annual talent show, Showstoppers. This event will surely go down in school history as one of the most exceptional and joyous occasions for CCA. Words cannot describe the pride we felt as our whole school community came together on the school premises to celebrate the unique talents and gifts of our wonderful young people. Students, staff, parents, past pupils, and members of the wider school community were overwhelmed by the sheer brilliance of our student performances. From soloists to group dances, from pianists to comedy acts, the entertainment was second to none. Our guest judges, Christy Dignam, Ben Condron and Hannah Mc Connell were confronted with the unenviable task of selecting a winner. Congratulations to Harry Rison who won the CCA Showstoppers award on the night! Thank you to everyone who came along and thank you to our wonderful Showstoppers team who made this event possible. Excellence, mutual respect and an extraordinary sense of school community made this a night to remember

Second Year Boys Football

The CCA Second Year Gaelic Footballers enjoyed another victory on Thursday morning. This time, Blessington Community College stood in their way. It was an away trip for CCA and all to play for in the South Leinster semi-final. The match took place at the Blessington GAA Club, which offered fantastic facilities. CCA emerged victorious on a score-line of 9-04 to 6-02. CCA started the game off slowly and were down by three points at half-time. However, their direct attacking play, along with their solid defensive structure, made them a difficult outfit to play against in the second half. One of the star performers on the day was Mason Melia, who scored an incredible seven goals from the full-forward position. Other star performers for CCA included JJ Brady, Ryan Collins, and Regan Kelly. The win would not have been possible without the great tactical decision-making by coaches and TY students Seán Byrne and Darragh Wolohan. The 2nd Year Gaelic Footballers now advance to the South Leinster Final, with that game scheduled to take place after the Easter Holidays.

First Year Girls Football

Well done to the First Year girls football team who recently took part in a football blitz last week where they defeated Gaelcoláiste na Mara on a scoreline of 3.8 to 1.2. They also had a 2 point victory over a very good Carnew side. Players of the Blitz were Nicole McAulay, Anna Doyle and Síofra Brady. Well done to all.

CIF Competition

Congratulations to the Construction Federation Industry Transition Year team who have been shortlisted as finalists in this years competition. The team were only 1 in 8 after getting through to the finals out of 105 teams and 44 schools in Ireland. The judges were very impressed with the creativity and innovation demonstrated by the team. Winners will be announced at the finals on 7th April. Best of luck!

Global Issues Week

This week celebrates Global Issues week here in CCA. We are passionate as a school to educate our young people about current global issues and how we can make a difference. This week we had guest speakers from Concern and John O’Shea, social advocate, founder and former CE of GOAL. We also had daily advice from our impassioned students about effects of and solutions to global issues as well as fun lunch time and tutorial activities. Well done to Mr. Healy and the Transition Year Global Issues class for organising the activities for this week.

Comhairle na nÓg

Well done to Cayden Elliot representing our school and Wicklow Comhairle this year at Dáil na nÓg. There was great engagement from our youth on topics effecting us all.

First Aid

Last week, all our Transition Year students were training in First Aid and Manual Handling. After completing their online modules in February, students completed practical hands on training in school in Basic First Aid, AED and CPR. Many thanks to Barry from www.firstaidcoaching.ie for facilitating the two days training.

U15 Boys Soccer

Superb win for our U15s soccer team to Scoil Mhuire of Clane. 4-1 was the final score line but the game was a lot closer than the score line suggested. An excellent team effort in the warm sun that was epitomised by a well marshalled defence led by Leon Reynolds. Goals from Bailey C Boyle, two from Mason Melia and a free kick from Matthew Britton that Messi would’ve been proud of. Man of the match has to go to two goal hero and captain Mason Melia who was exceptional. We March onto the semi-finals now and won’t be afraid of whoever awaits us there after this performance.

Junk Kouture

RTE have announced the wildcard winners for 2022. Only one wildcard space was awarded from each of the five regions and our very own Ditzy Discs were selected from the South East region!. The grand final now known as the Dublin City final, will take place on 5th May in the Bord Gáis Energy theatre. Tickets are on sale on ticketmaster but sell out fast. What a wonderful achievement and an exciting time for the ditzy Discs team of designers Ella McAulay, Sadhbh Murphy and Oliwia Ninard. They are among the final 60 designs selected from thousands of entries throughout the whole of Ireland On 5th May in front of judges Louis Walsh, Soule and a huge live audience, Sadhbh will model the dress and perform live on stag e in the Bord Gáis Energy theatre. Well done girls and we wish you the best of luck!
