Minister Harris raises CCA's Green Schools Flag
Our Student Leadership team and Senior Management team were delighted to welcome Minister for Further & Higher Education Simon Harris TD and Cllr. Tom Fortune, Chairperson of the Board of Management to Coláiste Chraobh Abhann to raise our Green School's Flag. Following the Green Flag raising ceremony, Minister Harris addressed the Senior students on further education and the various opportunities available. The Minister then visited one classroom to meet some Junior students. Minister Harris is always very supportive of the school and is keeping a close eye on the progress of the school extension. Well done also to students Madeleine Scott, Matt Gammell, Sophie Hamilton, Shauna Healy and Jeremiah Scott on their involvement in the ceremony.
Transition Year Advent Calendar
This week a group of Transition Year students presented residents of Kilcoole Lodge Nursing Home with a life size advent calendar they made. Each envelope contains personalised letters from TY students, jokes, fun facts, a trip down memory lane, quiz questions and chocolate for every day in the run up to Christmas. We hope it brings Christmas cheer to all the residents at Kilcoole Lodge Nursing Home. Wishing them all a very merry Christmas.
First Year Gingerbread House Competition
This week we had a gingerbread house decorating competition. All first years were given the opportunity to design a gingerbread house. The winning design from each tutor class got the chance to decorate an actual gingerbread house on Friday along with two friends from their tutor class and their peer mentors. Some of the entries were absolutely fantastic and we loved getting to see their creations coming to life. The vote opened up to crown the overall winner and well done to 1CDN who won the vote and a prize for their tutor class. A big thank you to Peer Mentor, Sophie Hamilton who organised it all!
Home Economics Christmas Assessments
The Second and Third Year Home Economics classes have been cooking up a storm this week as part of their Christmas assessments. Each student has cooked on their own while being assessed by their peer which is their cookery partner since September. The examiners this will then change roles and be examined on their cookery. Well done to all and best wishes to the chefs that are yet to delight us with their expertise and culinary delights.
Team Hope Shoebox Appeal 2021
Our Transition Year students from the "Community and Volunteering" class did a great job working on Team Hope's annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal. This campaign delivers gifts straight into the hands of children affected by poverty. Quite often these shoebox gifts are the only gift that a child will receive at Christmas and the joy that they bring is incredible. The students of Coláiste Chraobh Abhann are delighted to be part of this annual campaign. We would like to thank all those in our school community that contributed to the appeal. Well done all involved.
Minor Girls Soccer

Christmas Jumper Day
Last week we held our Christmas Jumper Day for 2021 which was organised by our Student Council along with Mr. Rice. There was a prize for the best dressed in each year and for the best dressed teacher. Well done to all involved in raising over €1450!
