BT Young Scientist Finalists:

This year we have two groups from the 2nd year group that qualified for the finals of BT Young Scientist in January. The students are Kaya Munez, William Makarus, Rhys Thompson (Title: To what extent does exhaustion affect memory?) and Eliza Scott, Eugenia Bonsu and Mia Brady (Title: Are you paying attention?) This is a significant accomplishment to be one of the 550 selected projects as there were over 1800 applicants. Everyone in our school community is very proud of these students. Best of luck in January!

Diversity Week

This week in CCA we celebrated Diversity week, a celebration of inclusion and belonging where we acknowledge and support the diversity and uniqueness of all the staff and students who make up our wonderful CCA community.

History Trip

5th year students attended a tour of The National Library . Students were given an opportunity to view sources available and gain knowledge on sourcing material from the National Archives in person and digitally printed which will be invaluable during their Research Study Report which accounts for 20% of their Leaving Cert Exam.

Students then visited the WB Yates exhibition. The Library kindly gifted resources for our school.

Students visited the National History Museum to spark ideas for their RSR's. The Bogman and Ancient Egypt were highlights. Our International students Noa and Ireber offered musical entertainment in Greystones and Pearse station to entertain the commuters with their beautiful Piano recital.

Poetry Winners

Congratulations to the winners of Ms. O'Dowd's 2nd year poetry competition. Well done to Brooke, Paul and Colin as they created diverse poems based off two of the four seasons.

This was a difficult decision as all students expressed great knowledge of poetry techniques and included creative imagery within their poems.

Congratulations to everyone involved and well done those who received lunch vouchers for their hard work.

Student Council Youth Summit

The student Council attended the Annual Youth Summit facilitated by the Wicklow Comhairle. Our head boy Cayden Elliot was involved in helping out on the day as part of his role on the Wicklow Comhairle na nóg. Students got to engage with other schools and voice their opinion on issues facing youths today.

U19 Boys Basketball

Well done to our U19 Boys Basketball team who won their Quarter Final. They played Colaiste Chillian in what was a very tight and enjoyable game. Final score on the day was 31-26. They now await news of their semi-final opponents.

2nd Year Football

The 2nd Year Footballers travelled to Blessington GAA on Wednesday morning. It wasn't to be for CCA this time around. They lost out on a score-line of 6-07 to 4-01 to strong opposition. Despite going down by 1-01 to no score after five minutes, CCA clawed back the lead and were up by three points at half time. A Blessington blitz of four goals in the first five minutes of the second half, helped with the windy conditions, made winning a difficult task for CCA. The game was played with excellent spirit and the sportsmanship from both teams was commended by both coaches at the end of the game. CCA's goals came from Enda Leacy, Rocky Dowds, Oscar Kelly, and Felix Pelz-Olufade while Aaron Nolan hit CCA's only point. Special mentions must go to Daniel Burke, Ryan McDonald, and Ryan Dunne who all performed excellently too. The campaign is not over for CCA yet. They have finished second in the group, and they now look forward to a South Leinster quarter final.

Child Talks

CCA was excited to have Bee Fennell, one of our students, as one of the speakers for this year’s Child Talks which took place in the Helix, Dublin on Tuesday 7th November. Bee was one of only seven speakers selected from across Ireland to take part in this event which is run by the Ombudsman for Children’s Office.

Child Talks aims to amplify the voice of children and young people and provide a positive platform for them to tell stories that are personal to them.

The young voices discussed important topics under the theme "The Ireland I want to live in…". This exciting and informative event featured a number of guest speakers as well as live music entertainment! Well done Bee and thanks to the students who attended for their great support.

Junior Girls Football

Big congratulations to the junior girls football team who won against Gael Colaiste na Mara in what was a fantastic free flowing game. CCA ran up a strong lead at the start of the second half and showed great determination an resilience to defend it from a strong Arklow side. Super performances all over the pitch from the girls.

Scoreline 8-7 to 5-10
