CCA "Craobhacha" Programme

This year we have launched our "Craobhacha" programme. This programme involves a group of 4th, 5th and 6th year students who work to support younger students in their journey through school. The "Craobhacha" programme is aptly named and is reflective of the branches of support our students can offer each other in the areas of academic progress and personal development. Student leadership at its very best! Thanks for Ms. Ward for all her work on this invaluable programme and best of luck to our Craobhacha team in the months ahead.

Junior Boys Soccer

We recorded a great 6-1 win for our first u15s soccer match this week which was against CCM Wicklow. After a super first win in our cup game, we now go onto the next round to play either Templecarrig or Woodbrook. Goals from Mason Melia, Adam Walsh, Jake Robertson and Seán Lawless with 2 goals secured the win. Man of match goes to Adam Walsh for an outstanding performant but it could’ve gone to any one of the panel with great performances all over the park. Well done lads!

Senior Boys Soccer

The senior boys began their soccer season last Friday against Templecarrig in the cup. The game was very even from the start with lots of chances at either end. Templecarrig scored first but CCA quickly responded with a beautiful volley from Craig Davies from just outside the box. Templecarrig scored another 2 goals before half time to make the score 3-1.

CCA burst out of the blocks in the second half and were rewarded with a great team goal finished by Michael Gray. CCA continued to pile on the pressure and Michael Gray added another to tie it up at 3-3. The game became very open and either team could’ve gone onto win it. Unfortunately, Templecarrig scored the next goal to make it 4-3. As CCA pushed on to get an equaliser, gaps appeared at the back and Templecarrig sneaked in for another 2 goals. The game finished 6-3.

It was a good performance from CCA. Ryan Clark, Craig Davies, Shane Synnott and Michael Gray stood out in particular. The next game is away to Colaiste Cill Mhantain in a few weeks time.

Junior Boys Football

Our 2nd Year boys Gaelic football team had a great win over Gael Colaiste na Mara Arklow this week. The score line finished 3-11 to 4-4. Just like their last game against Blessington the team showed tremendous team spirit and effort and never stopped working hard for each other. They had a 7 point lead at half time but Arklow played some great football and had the game tied with only a few minutes to play. The team continued to play for each other and scored the final 4 points of the game to claim victory. Well done to all involved!

First Year Boys Football Blitz

The First Year Gaelic Footballers had their first outing of the year at a North Wicklow Schools blitz at Éire Óg, Greystones grounds on Wed. This was a very enjoyable day, especially as our two teams won all their matches in their respective groups. Thanks to the organisers of the event and to the two TY students, Daragh Wolohan and Aaron Smith, who helped out with the teams on the day. The future looks promising with the talent shown with this group. The squad on the day was, Jack Crimmins Smith, Alex Wolohan, Evan Rooney, Aaron Walsh, Tom Merriman, Joey Drumgoole, Zach Dunne, Rian Day, Lochlann Hughes, Jack Kenny, Aidan Heffernan, Oran Finnerty, Leighton Gahan, John Turley, Leo Kavanagh, Ciarán Mulvey.

Every morning students had the opportunity during tutorial to take part in science quizzes where winners were chosen every day. There was a list shared of science related programmes that students could watch throughout the week to improve their science knowledge. Students were also invited to enter the ISTA photograph competition which is open to all secondary school students. The theme of the competition was "Energy in Today's World" and students were to take a photograph to represent their own interpretation of the theme. Students during science classes this week also got to participate in some chemistry experiments such as woosh bottles and methane bubble. TYs also watched a documentary on a life on our earth and discussed the future of the planet, climate change and how we can impact it. Well done to the Science Department for organising such a fun and informative week.
