December Students of the Month
Congratulations to all students who received the Student of the Month Award for December. The Student of the Month Award is a special CCA initiative where we recognise the students who have put in a tremendous effort and have embodied the CCA spirit of educational excellence and mutual respect.
1st Year Computers
This week, our First Year computer classes have embarked on their stop motion video journeys. As part of their computers module, students learn about different ways of presenting information in order to aid them for future presentations and project work. Having completed extensive work in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint before Christmas, the focus now turns to more creative ways of presenting information. Over the next few weeks, all first year students will complete a number of stop motion videos in order to make them proficient in it and will be busy collecting props and creating storyboards for their videos. We are looking forward to seeing their final creations in a few weeks time!
Arts Week
This week we celebrated Arts Week in CCA. Recordings were made of our 3rd and 6th Year music students who are currently preparing for their practicals. The performances recorded showcases best practice for all students in the music classes who have been preparing their practicals since First Year. There were various styles of performances shown including voice, ukelele, piano and guitar. A very high standard of work was shown and can be viewed on our social media. A big thank you to TY student Sam Given who recorded it.
Leaving Cert PE
As part of their Leaving Cert PE subject, students must complete the compositional elements of the course. Ms. Miley had her 6th Year LCPE students create a performance based around gymnastics and dance. They had been practising for a number of classes, culminating with the final performance on Wednesday. The students were in groups of 5 and had to have a theme for their performance. In front of a number of teachers and some of their year group, the performances were based on Spiderman, James Bond, Dancing Queen, Rocky and WWE. Well done to all involved and in particular to the WWE group who were voted as the overall winners.
CCA Planning Day
On Tuesday 18th January, we held a staff planning day in CCA. The day was staff led and student focused. During the day, staff members facilitated workshops for each other on a number of different topics that they are experts on. The workshops were based on team teaching, classroom based assessments and SLAR development for jct, magenta principles for the classroom, peer review and restorative practice. The workshops were very informative with staff taking a lot of information with them to incorporate into their lesson plans. Staff then had an online wellbeing talk from John Doran and the day finished up with a staff review. A big thank you to all staff members who presented on the day and shared their knowledge and expertise.
Senior Cycle Options Information Evening
On Thursday, 20th January we were delighted to host our CCA Senior Cycle Options Information Evening 2022. Students were introduced to the different Senior Cycle routes available to them and there were presentations from a number of current 6th Year students on their own Senior Cycle experience. Thanks to all the students and parents who joined us for this very important event. As 3rd and 4th Year students prepare to make some crucial decisions about the next phase of their school journey over the next couple of weeks, we are there to support them every step of the way!
