Academic Excellence

Well done to all our 2nd year and 3rd year students who received the top grades in the Summer Exams. During assembly this week, the students who received the highest grade in each subject were presented with their academic excellence certificates this week.

Leinster Boxing

Well done to 5th Year student John Phoenix who travelled Olaine in Latvia last weekend as part of the Leinster development squad.

European Languages Week

This week we celebrated Languages Week in CCA. Our theme this year is based on how learning languages helps us to grow by boosting brain power, improving memory, focus and communication skills! We had a free European Food Market on Monday where foods from countries including France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain. Each morning at break there was face painting in the GP Area. First Years received a special visit from TYs to teach them French/Spanish songs throughout the week and there were riddles and games dotted around the building also. Well done to the languages department for organising and to all students that got involved.

Gaeltacht

On Friday, 27 Senior Cycle students travelled to the Gaeltacht in Belmullet in Co. Mayo to attend Coláiste Uisce. They spent the weekend on the water surfing, paddle boarding, doing team building activities, orienteering, archery, pier jumping and céilí all through Irish.

ETBI Bliain na Gaeilge

We are delighted this week to receive a plaque acknowledging our success as the recipient of the Duais Speisialta Scoileanna Lán Béarla in the ETBI Blag Na Bliana 2020/21. The students had to log our approach at promoting Irish in CCA and the community. The students documented all the competitions the school entered this year and the efforts made by all to promote and make Irish fun and alive for students. Ciara Jackson was the main driving force behind the blog and supported by Alex O'Brien, Alanna Plunkett, Abbie Wills, Anna Morris, Charlotte Nagle, Angel Roy and the club Gaeilge in CCA. Táimid an-bhrodúil astu.

Life Skills Trip

Ms. Toner and Ms. O'Gara brought students on a life skills trip, a new weekly initiative in CCA this year. This week they went for a walk to Kilcoole Beach. Along the way, they practiced road safety, with the students taking turns to talk to the group through it. They also spoke to a train driver about crossing the tracks safely and learned that a train takes more than a mile to stop when it puts on its breaks! They spent a lot of the walk getting to know each other and practiced asking each other questions. They learned about stopping to read signs, as there was one posted about the dangers of bird flu. They also earned to ask a dog owner before petting a dog. They explored the local business, Bomar and spoke about how to purchase items. They also got to learn a bit of geography, history, science, maths and English along the way. It was a very enjoyable trip for all involved and they are very much looking forward to next week.

Inside the Classroom

This week we got an insight into Ms. Wright's 3rd Year Science class. During their study of Ecology, they had a lesson based on habitats. They went out to the school grounds to do a habitat study on it. Using a quadrant, they discovered a lot of plant and animal life in the grass. They found vibrant flowers, tall grass, and weeds. The animal life was more insect and bug centred. They came across crickets, spiders, ladybugs, and worms. They recorded the discoveries in their copies and photographed any animals that they came across. It was fascinating to spend time familiarising ourselves with the ecosystems that exist all around them. Thank you to 3rd year student Ava Devlin for the report.
