2nd Year Boys Gaelic Football

CCA's 2nd Year Gaelic Footballers came away with the win today against Blessington CC in the Leinster Football Championship. The game, which took place at Kilcoole GAA pitch, was an enthralling encounter between two good sides. CCA started the game off incredibly well. CCA scored five goals in quick succession and without reply. An onslaught by Blessington CC in the second-half meant that CCA would only win the game by four points, on a score-line of 7-06 to 4-11. To their credit, Blessington rallied right to the end - but they just did not have enough to recover from CCA's first-half exploits. Some of the stars of the game for CCA included corner-forward Aidan Heffernan, attacker Dylan Hyland, and wing-back Joe Keeshan. Not only was the win brilliant, but all panel members received sufficient game today which will serve as excellent preparation for their next game against Piper's Hill College of Naas. Thank you to TY students Leon Reynolds and Ryan Harrison who acted in a coaching capacity alongside Mr. Redmond.

Student Council

Coláiste Chraobh Abhann's Student Council represents the voice of the student body and is supported by Ms. Page. The Council is a formal arena for students to become involved in effective planning, to be given the responsibility of being partners with staff and parents and to be listened to. It creates opportunities for the development of leadership, responsibility and improved communication between staff and students. Well done to our newly elected representatives

Sophie Kavanagh, Jack Moriarty, Yosr Hamza & Louis Keville, Tom Gammell, Sophia Siklody, Grace Cullen, Leon Reynolds, Sophie Murray Leacy, Ryan Murphy, Ciara Jackson & Sam Gillan. Best of luck for the year ahead.

Student of the Month Awards

This special CCA initiative has been a focus of our schools approach to promoting the holistic development of each student. The students who received the awards have excelled in all areas of school life during the past month. Well done to all the award winners!

Transition Year Enterprise Workshop

Last Friday, TY students attended a workshop from Charlotte who visited on behalf of the Local Enterprise Office in Wicklow. The workshop was aimed around idea generation. It gave students a good insight into how to brainstorm creative ideas for their mini companies. Charlotte talked about the importance of having a unique selling point and always keeping the consumer in mind when engaging in enterprise. Our students are looking forward to continuing their student enterprise journey.

3rd Year Study Skills

Huge thanks to Inspire Education for delivering their “On Your Marks” programme today to our 3rd year students. This programme provides students with the knowledge to have a better understanding about the memory system, how to prepare for exams and have gained great insights on time management which they will use for their Junior Cert. Good luck!

Vincent Hunt Retirement

A hard worker, always with a smile and a kind word for everyone and the love of a practical joke. Some of the characteristics CCA will miss about our friend and colleague of 17 years, caretaker Vincent Hunt.

Vincent joined the CCA team in 2005 when he worked as night time caretaker supporting the adult education programme and evening rentals. He always brought a sense of fun to the workplace, enjoying a laugh and practical joke with his colleagues. He supported the ancillary team of Chris Nugent, John Synnott, Anne McCaul and Jenny Crean as he predominantly looked after the grounds outside taking great pride in keeping the grass cutting under control. We would like to thank Vincent for the many hours of service that he has given to the school community over the years, for sharing his skills and for his jovial personality that brought a smile to our faces on our busiest of days. Wishing Vincent the best of good health and happiness in his retirement.

Class Captain Training

Well done to our 56 class captains who took part in student leadership training last week with Ms. Ward. The students were highly engaged in the training activities and are very keen to get going in their new roles. It is encouraging to see their personal reflections on what the role should entail. We wish them the best of luck for the year ahead and we look forward to working with them as part of our vast student leadership team in CCA.

TY Barista Training

On Friday, all TY students took part in a Barista Training Workshop. Many thanks to Mike and Thomas from @dublin_barista_school who worked with our students. Students learned all about the training and career of a barista, how to use coffee making equipment, espresso technique, milk chemistry and texturing techniques and got an introduction to latte art design.

Inside the Classroom

Ms. Kehoe's science classes carried out investigations on various topics that they were studying in class this week. First Year students used different measurement equipment and completed different stations to perfect their use of the equipment for measuring.

Second Year students carried out a neutralisation titration to find out how much acid is needed to neutralise the base. They had to be very precise using their burette to get the exact volume needed to eutralise, wathcing for a colour change in their indicator to match to the pH Scale.

Transition Years spent class time this week investigating the different biomolecules in different foods. They tested for starch, fat protein and reducing sugar. Excellent results were obtained from TYs.
