The next session of the Teaching & Learning Club took place remotely on Tuesday 19th January and was split into two distinct topics. Ms. Egan began by introducing staff to the Folding Frenzies technique whereby students can learn and revise a class topic in an inventive way. Using a sheet of A3 paper, students begin with a pre-teaching phase whereby they write down and explain all key definitions for the topic. Folding the paper into A4 size, they create a mind map or list of bullet points on the topic. By reducing the paper size further, students can draw a diagram, symbol or image of the topic. In the final fold, students write down the most important aspects of the topic in approximately 6 points. The second half of the session was led by Ms. Lillis who explored the use of Microsoft OneNote Class Notebook. She began by presenting on the collaborative potential of this platform, and how students can share their work and ideas, as well as having an individual space to store their notes for a particular lesson. The library section of the Notebook allows teachers to store lesson materials including homework and handouts. Ms. Lillis looked at the process of assigning work, submitting homework and setting quizzes in Notebook, all of which contribute to more interactive and creative content for students.
